I tried looking at the sight but I couldn't find anything about this: Do each monster type/breed have a certain life span?

no, i dont believe theyve any lifespan o_O
but they can still get fainted inside cave when their hp reaches 0 though

it's not that hard to get fodder though so I think it'll be ok. You get 9 fodder for each barn you have, which is A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

I have one barn and I have 43 feed in the holder, I don't know how high it will go, so I buy a lot and put it in there.

I find growing my own fodder isn't really worth my time/money compared to full time vegetable farming/mining and buying fodder.
