I was just wondering if I was using the friend broach you buy from Charlie... I've just been putting it in my equipment slot and "equiping" it before I talk to somebody.... This is the correct way to use it I assume?

If it's anything like the Friend Brooches in HMDS, you actually have to wear it before you go to bed at night. The extra FP will appear the next morning (although in HMDS the sprites don't earn any FP, just the regular villagers do). The lower versions of the FB occasionally increase FP, and the higher version (the red one) will give you an extra FP every morning.

There isn't any sort of Love Bangle in Island, so it's going to be hard to tell if the same thing is true unless you used it before bed for a long period of time and try to keep an eye on the number of hearts each person has. I don't know if Island's Friend Brooch will have an affect on the sub-characters or just the main folks.

Ok, I really wanted to confirm how to use it so I did some tests to prove which was the right way to work it. So for one month of talking to these people and sleeping I talked to Natalie with the friend brooch equipped and I talked to Lily w/o the brooch and I didn't talk to Julia at all, becuase these three characters all had the same amount of heart. Every night I slept with the brooch on.

The results were that no one (including everyone else in the town) but Natalie gained any hearts at all. Just to test it further, I went for about a week of talking to the others with the brroch equipped and they began to gain hearts as well...

So I'm pretty sure it's been confirmed. In short, the exact way to use it is to equip it before talking to a person : )
