The controls are so bad. They are SO BAD.
And I mean, I'm used to them now, but objectively, they are SO BAD. If you were to, say, lose your stylus, you would no longer be able to play this game. (Although, tap-selection, that is amazing. I do appreciate being to tap what you want to pick up, and it actually picking up the correct thing, even when something else is on top of it.)

wow-awesome you say the controls suck but the only reason you give is because you have to use the stylus? could you give another reason why the controls are so bad?Emurii wrote:The controls are so bad. They are SO BAD.

It's hard to explain if you haven't played it. As I believe I mentioned, the stylus is basically the entire game -- the only thing you DON'T use the stylus for is using tools. This (1) makes it very confusing to drop things on the ground: in all previous HM games, A button gave or threw the item. In KimiShima, using an item you hold will make you eat it, or try to eat it. You have to somehow understand that you're supposed to drag it onto the ground to put it back. This sucks for when you accidentally pick up an item you did not mean to pick up.
It is also (2) annoying to run at times, because you need to somehow navigate your stylus to the corner of the screen and make yourself run, and yet, there's the menu for what you're holding, in the corner of the screen. This happens to me a lot leaving Chen's shop.
(3) While I do agree that it is convenient, I don't really like the fact that you can give something to someone from across the screen. It loses that homey, one-on-one, close up feeling of gift giving in Harvest Moon.
(4) Once you select an item to hold (item as opposed to tool), you have to click on something else to hold to unselect it. So if you don't want to be carrying a fish or something around when you've accidentally tapped it, you sometimes have to go into your rucksack, equip a tool, and tap it, just to put the fish away -- because if you just click on the fish again, you automatically eat it, no "Eat? Yes/No" option.
(5) This isn't really controls, but things don't stack automatically, and you can't set them to. This is ANNOYING_AS_H.ELL and requires constant reorganization of the rucksack.
I mean, I love this game, I'm really into it -- don't let these issues sway you from purchasing the game. But the controls, they are _far_ from perfect, and you guys should know that, is what I'm saying.

1) Way to be a « Sheep Squeezer »harvesting dude 3000 wrote:1 more thing if you lose your stylus just use you finders are another stylus from something else just think stupid geez
2) If you lose your stylus, the presumption is that you don't have another stylus. Otherwise, you wouldn't really have the problem. Using your fingers smudges up your DS screen like woah, and in KimiShima -- which, by the way, you have not played, and I have, so I think I know a little better here -- your fingers would be far too large to use as a stylus -- there's REALLY precise touch-select. I once accidentally threw a fish on the ground instead of giving it to Danny because of a stylus problem.
