my japanese isn't even half as good enough to translate a whole page of a guidebook that has probaly lots of complex kanji

Not really. :\ HM is targeted to a young-ish age bracket, so the kanji isn't that terrible. People don't use exorbitant amounts of kanji unnecessarily unless they're using keigo.

I have to agree with Emurii, if the was something in the guide book, the Japanese kids would already know.
