This is the 2nd time this has happened to me.

I'm digging in the lake mine get to around level 9 and find there is no staircase.

I've destroyed every stone, dug up every square and still nothing.

Sometimes there are dead-ends in the mine. That is why it is a good idea to do the save slot trick.

Save before going to the next floor.
If there is no stairs going down to the next level, reload, go down again, and try again for the stairs.

well actually, if you bothered to read cher's site or do some research on your own, you would have found out that this DOES happen... The only way to solve this is save everytime before you enter the stairs.

I'm at floor 29 with a save slot in 28 but I can't find the stupid rod, I've dug up the whole place a few times now...

first off, have you read Cher's site yet? I'll provide you a small checklist to ensure that you are able to get the cursed tools:
All tools mystrile?
Empty tool slot?
Are you DIGGING for them?

If none of those apply, that might be the problem. Also, you don't always find the tools on your first try, I did for the hoe, but the others took MANY MANY tries.

Save at slot 2 and go down and save at slot 1 and when you find the stair remember what space it is on and reload slot 1 and you it will only take 1% of your stamina! If you can't find a staircase reload slot 2 and go down the staircase again! Hope this helps Kyle

Yeah. I've done the save slot thing, got down to level 29 with a save slot in 28, I've only brought hoe and hammer but still I can't find the cursed rod...

the rod is believe to be the hardest to find, took me 30+ reloads, that is why I hate digging in the mine so much...

Ok thanks, at least I know it is here somewhere.

I'm determined to get it though, lol.
