What in gods name does Budum mean

I think a lot of "cute" things in Japanese culture have little things that they say when they talk....Like..."no da" or "budum".

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but it's my personal theory. No da. ^^

I think its the way they say, "But um..." or its just a thing they say (like golum from LoTR saying "Precious!")

"Budum" = "Buddy." That's the way I see it.

Nah, Gollum is refering to the Ring...and because the Ring enslaved his mind, it's dominating it all the time...that's why he's saying it all the time.
As for the Sprites, saying "But um" all the time doesn't make sense in every context...

I always thought it meant buddy or friend.
Or not.

I'm with you. That seems to be the most logical translation, and it makes sense in every context I've seen.

Um, I don't think it means anything. It's like in Animal Crossing where the animals say "mew" or "ruffian". Or, like in the magna of Rurouni Kenshin, Kenshin says "oro".

I think budum must mean nothing in the same waythat in the Final Fantasy series the moogles say kupo after every sentance that doesn't mean anything either does it

they say 'kupo' in kingdom hearts to its just like what they have got used to saying and has became a habit...like if you said mate or darling...etc etc etc...

Well, Kenshin says Oro when he's confused, doesn't he? And Ruffian means a thug or gangster. So... they're calling you a gangster.

They more remind me of a mixture of Harry Potter House Elfs (Dobby, you know) and those little forest people of Zelda...
