i just called my sheep: sheep. my second sheep2 etc.

when i have a babysheep i call it meeeh etc.

same with cows and poultry. my cat is called cat. my dog is called dog. and my horse... guess you can guess that one

like to keep it simple and no to overthink.

fluffy or puffy maybe ayu that sounds like a really cute name!

eh, i got really bored with it. especially when trying to name 20 chickens. i did all the roman emperors then in another game i tried to nick name philosophers (I always call my cat Carte for Rene Descarte - he was a vivisectionist-> 'vivi' for the latin root living, 'sectionist' for... you know.

but anyway, about the chickens. now they're named "A", "B", "C", "D", "E"... and the ducks are "a", "b", "c", "d", "e"... after the 10th start of a game... you just get down to the nitty-gritty.

You can laugh at this but I always name my animals after anime characters :D Now this is the system in which I workled with in MFoMT and will use in Cute when I find my friggin DS...
Chickens: Inuyasha/ Fruits Basket names cause I like Kanna and Thoru ect
Cows: I name my first cow Popuri cause before I even knew pink haired poppie exsited I played AWL and named my cow that it wa slater that I tried 64 and MFoMT and realized a pouri exsited it still sticks. Then the next Manna to keep with my new 'name after girls in HM thing'
Sheeps: the first Hinata and then I like Ozaka :D and so on
