GBA Connection Question

I realize that there is two different versions of the Mineral Town game. A boy and a girl version. I was wondering if you needed a specific one to connect with it in Cute, or if it didn't matter and you could have either one?
If it doesn't matter, which one is better? I want to play it as well as be able to access it through Cute. :}

I think your aloud to use both of them but I don't have any of them so I don't know which one is better.

You can use either. I only had 'Friends of Mineral Town' (boy version) and used it to connect with Cute. It's fine.
Either version will work. Both will unlock the same characters/ events. It'll only be different if you used it to connect with HMDS.

Sometimes when I try to connect it to the Mineral Town game the connection fails. My sister found out that I had to start the game over.

Both work, the exact same way. I got FOMT from game stop for $17.99
