There is a save/reload trick to the mines and making the monsters disappear, but does this work on the HM DS Cute or does it only work for the boy version?

I think it only works in the boy version.

on my cute version it doesn't work which is a real shame

no problem.

On those big floors with just a few rocks, I don't bother with killing the chicks and chickens (and eventually cow). If you just run around like crazy, you can usually find a hole that way.
