Will talking do the job..?

Hi guys!
Just a quick question I couldn't find an answer for in the forums yet:
Does simply talking to the villagers increase their affection level in any way? or can you only get them to like you by giving them gifts (pretty materialistic, eh ^_^)?

I think talking does increase it, but it increases by VERY LITTLE.

It would seem so, but I haven't seen the coding behind it. It's definitely better to give gifts too though.

i got grey to be my m8 by talking to him. actually, i made him talk to me, coz he is F.I.T! and that weird UMA symbol on his hat just turns me on!(i mean, makes me smile..)

Yeah but it'll take forever to make the sprites like you at that rate. You can just give them simple things like bread or flour.
