The townspeople do age like that one little athlete boy, but (I'm not sure) I think some people don't, therefore they live throughout the game. Not completely sure though.
You're pretty much an adult to start the game. You get married automatically at the beginning of Chapter 2 - if you've proposed or had a girl propose to you. Yes, the other townspeople age too, though it seems like some of them don't...but none of them die except...

Okay, just to answer Covert's question, if you're good friends with Galen you get to wash Nina's grave with him. It's so sad when it's the old peoples who pass away...

Thanks sentenra, I didn't realize you had to be friends with him to be able to wash her grave - I thought you just had to show up at the right time. I haven't actually tried it yet, but I guess I'm not going to be able to since I'm not his friend.
