That's the stress bar. If it fills up, your animal will get sick and also affects the quality of the produce. To lower stress, using brush on livestocks would lower it and taking the chickens outside on a good weather will help lower stress.

Remember that you can brush your animals multiple times... Animals get stressed from being attack by wild dogs too... So make sure they are fenced in if you leave them outside...

Also do people have black heart events? or would black heart events count as when they first move in?

Asked this on the last page and I didn't get an answer:
Does the rank (Qlty, size, etc) of food affect stam recovery? I have one source that says yes and another that says no. I do know it effects shipping cost but that's all I know.
Question: If you're playing as a girl and she is pregnant, does you stamina go down quicker? My character is pregnant right now and it feels like that when mining and fishing.

I think that in this game the characters got smart enough to recognize both of your birthdays. The text is just tweaked a bit to include both of you, or something like that.
