You didn't lose your money, just grow crops in the basement. You only lost the money you may have spent on tree seeds. Plus, If I understaood correctly, trees do grow in the basement, but they'll never give you fruit.

If you don't have the resources to get the suns from the third mine just yet, don't despair. The basement isn't going anywhere. You have just made the investment a bit early, that's all.
