Mining for Materials
To construct objects, remodel your tools, or upgrade your house size, you will need to collect ores and gems to be used during construction. When you first start your adventure in Oak Tree Town you won't have a way to excavate for these materials. Luckily you can go diving in the rivers to collect certain metals. Most players will be diving to collect Brick in the Riverside Pasture area to be used to upgrade the size of the farm house. Topaz, Fluorite, Peridot, Iron, Glass Stone, Copper, and Glittering Stone can also be pulled up from the river bottoms.
The other available gems and ores that you'll need can be found by smashing the mining point with your hammer or buying from the town merchants.
Unlocking the Mining Point
There isn't a mine that you can explore in Story of Seasons. What you have access to is a crack in a wall located in the right side of the wildlife Safari park. To unlock the Safari, walk into the Guild Hall starting on Fall 1 of your first year. You'll meet Agate the Park Ranger and gain access to the Safari. You can travel there by asking Veronica at the Guild Hall to call Agate to take you there or you can simply have Carrots in your rucksack and use the horse stall to travel there yourself using your horse.
Once per day you can strike your hammer against the mining point to force gems, metal coins, rocks, and ores to pop out. Between 5 and 10 items can appear from the crack in the wall, and the types of items that appear are based on the quality of hammer that you are using. For example, using an Old Hammer will never result in Gold (among other items), and a normal Hammer can't find Glittering Stone. All possible items can appear once you being to use a Gold Hammer, with the higher level hammers making rarer items appear more often (e.g., Pink Diamond, Adamantite, Philosopher's Stone, etc.)
An important feature of the mining point is that the item that appears is determined when you strike the wall. This means you can save your game before hitting the node and if you don't find what you're looking for, reload your save game and hit it again to find new items.
If you are having a difficult time finding rare ore and gems, waiting 7 days between hitting the mining point will increase your chances of finding these items, but it is just as easy to use the save/reload trick to get what you're looking for on a daily basis.
Items found at the mining point do not have a Star Rank that will affect their sale price.
