Trade Depot Information Desk
At the entrance to the depot is the Information Desk. You will find Jonas there from about 9:00 until 20:00 most days of the week. During festivals or Sundays, you will find Jack managing the desk instead. Even when there are no international traders scheduled to appear at the Trade Depot, the information booth will be open.
When you press the A Button while standing in front of the desk, you will open two options: check the recommended products to be shipped that week, or accept special shipping requests from depot vendors. Alternatively, if no one is manning the Information Desk you can still access the recommended products list.
Check Recommended Shipping
This list will inform you of the categories of items that vendors are paying more for that week. Every Monday the list of categories will be refreshed and will remain the same for the rest of the week. There are 20 categories of items that the vendors can request: Spring Crops, Summer Crops, Fall Crops, Winter Crops, Flowers, Spices, Grains, Mountain Crops (i.e., wild items), Eggs/Dairy, Products (e.g., cloth, pottery, etc.), Fish, Wine, Cooking, Tea, Materials, Objects, Tools, Furniture, Wallpaper/Flooring, and Wardrobe.
Every vendor that you have unlocked will appear in the list of recommended shipping. The vendors will list one or two categories per week. They will only ask for certain categories from the 20 available:
- Silk Country: Eggs/Dairy, Fish, Flowers, Grains, Materials, Mountain Crops, Objects, Summer Crops, Tools, and Wine
- Cabin Country: Cooking, Fall Crops, Fish, Spices, Spring Crops, Summer Crops, Tools, and Winter Crops
- Sakura Country: Cooking, Eggs/Dairy, Tea, Materials, Mountain Crops, Objects, Products, Summer Crops, Wardrobe, Wallpaper/Flooring, and Wine
- Wheat Country: Fall Crops, Furniture, Objects, Spring Crops, Wardrobe, and Winter Crops
- Rose Country: Cooking, Fall Crops, Spices, Spring Crops, Summer Crops, Wallpaper/Flooring, Wardrobe, and Winter Crops
- Tropical Country: Cooking, Eggs/Dairy, Fall Crops, Flowers, Grains, Mountain Crops, Wine, and Winter Crops
- Ice Country: Cooking, Eggs/Dairy, Furniture, Grains, Materials, Products, Spices, Wardrobe, and Wine
The depot vendors won't offer to pay more for Other category items such as Boots, insects, Fodder, colored downy tufts, and animal food. Remember, you can always find an item's Trading Category by looking at the top screen of your Nintendo 3DS while highlighting the item name in your inventory.
If you sell an item from a recommended category to the vendor who is paying more for it, then you will earn more profit. You can see that a vendor is paying more for an item from your inventory by looking for the orange "∧" characters on the item's base price when you are interacting with an international vendor. The base price will also be red colored.
- Three "∧" indicates you'll earn 8% more profit.
- Two "∧" indicates you will earn 5% more profit.
- One "∧" indicates you will earn 2% more profit.
Likewise, if you sell too many items, then the vendor will pay less for that category of items until he/she returns for another visit. A single blue "∨" on the item's base price means the vendor will pay you 30% less than normal, and a triple "∨" will only earn you 50% of the typical base price. The vendors will never pay less than 1 G.
On the far right-side of the recommended shipping list are two markers. The first one, under the "!" label, indicates if the vendor has special shipping requests available. The second one, under the SALE label, indicates if the vendor is having a special discount sale on their stock inventory (seeds, cloths, cooking ingredients, and so on). The chance of a 20% off sale occurring for the week is depending on the country's Customer Points.
Accept Request
This menu will display all of the special shipping requests that the depot vendors are asking for. To accept a request, simply press the A Button to save it to the Note menu located on your touch screen, where it will stay until you cancel the request. You can save up to 10 special shipping requests in your Note menu.
Each request will give you the name of the vendor, the specific item being requested, the minimum Star Rank the vendor will require (if applicable), and the number of that item you have already. At the bottom of each request is the Appreciation, which is the extra reward you'll receive along with the money you'll earn for delivering the requested item to the vendor.
When the list of requested shipping categories refreshes on Mondays, the special delivery requests will also update. The more vendors you have unlocked, the more shipping requests will be available. With all seven unlocked, you could have over 200 requests to select from each week!
You are not required to complete every request available. Just pick the ones that you are comfortable doing or have an interest in the appreciation the requests reward you with. The vendors will often ask for the same items more than once, and sometimes it can get a little goofy when a vendor requests an item and then gives that same item as Appreciation.
The important requests you want to keep an eye out for are the ones on blue paper. These requests will reward you with blueprints, cooking recipes, or sewing patterns. The more money you've earned from shipping to the vendors, the more challenging the requests. The same blue request can come from different vendors, yet the item the vendor requests will be the same no matter who offers it. For example, Ashe from Silk Country may request 9 Tomatoes for the recipe for Tomato Juice, and if you let the request expire off of the board, the next time the 9-Tomato request appears it might be offered by Kenneth at Wheat Country instead.
