As you increase hearts with people, sometimes they will activate special requests for you to fulfill. The requests are challenging and give you something more to do in the game.
Fixing the Mine Cart
After you have chimed the Red Bell, talk to Bo when he is standing by the mine cart in Garmon Mine District. The cart will take you directly to Harmonica Town once he can figure out how to get it to work. He's tried every day without success. Maybe he can do it if he had some lunch every day.
Bring Bo something to eat for the next 3 to 4 days. Give him the food when he is by the mine cart after 8:00 am and you'll help him find the energy he needs to fix the cart. After his appetite has been subdued, Bo will have the cart fixed.
The mine cart shortcut back and forth between Harmonica Town and Garmon Mine District can be used an unlimited number of times per day. You do not need to leave the cart at the top or bottom of the track in order to use it. There will be a cart available on both ends of the mine cart's track.
When you raise Ozzie's friendship up to at least 1 heart, talk to him behind his counter and he will tell you all about recycling. He requests that you bring him lots of junk that you catch when fishing so that he can recycle it.
- 30 Empty Cans - These are tricky to find, but you can catch them on rainy days in the ocean.
- 40 Rubber Boots - Fish in the stream that runs from the pond towards the sea in Clarinet District.
- 50 Swim Trunks - Swim Trunks can be caught off of Toucan Island. You can also occasionally catch the shorts by fishing in the ocean from Castanet, but only if you power up your fishing pole to level 3 or higher.
- 60 Empty Bottles - You can catch this item by fishing at the waterfall in Garmon Mine district or in the stream to the left of Witch's house in Fugue Forest.
- 99 Algae - The larger pond area next to the Witch's house is great for catching lots of Algae. If you fish in the stream to the left of her house then you can catch Algae and Empty Bottles at the same time.
As you bring him the stack of requested items, he will reward you with 1 Sapphire. Once you have brought him the five types of items for recycling he will give you an overall reward of a single Diamond.
You do not need to bring him a full stack of items. If you happen to have a few of them in your rucksack, bring them to Ozzie and he will deduct them from your required total.
Chase's Cooking School
If you talk to Chase while he is working in the kitchen at the Brass Bar, you'll find him trying to teach Maya how to cook. Unfortunately she's not very good at it and Chase is ready to give her up as a student.
Now that you've arrived, perhaps he can teach you some things. Talk to him between 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm and he will ask you to cook a dish using a utensil he requests. Sometimes he will also suggest a particular type of ingredient as well. There's no time limit on when you need to bring the finished recipe back to him.
Chase is a very picky gourmet so basic recipes like a Plain Omelet are not that impressive. You have to return a dish that is worth a minimum amount of gold as if you had shipped the dish yourself.
Each time you bring back a dish, he will give you the next cooking category. You can only do this once a day.

Barbara's Ore Request
When Barbara has 3 or more hearts, walk into her shop in Garmon Mine District. She will ask if you've going to the mine, and if so could you pick her up some Rare Ore.
The Rare Ore is the brilliant-blue colored ore that comes from the rocks. You can find it in any of the 3 mines, although it seems to be easier to find in the town's Water Cave. You just have to bring Barbara 1 piece of Rare ore and in return you'll receive Perfect Cheese and Perfect Butter.
Eating Ice Cream
Walk past the Cymbol Blacksmith Shop, heading in the direction of the Garmon Mine. The season must be Summer. Chloe and Paolo must have 3 hearts or higher, and you know a recipe for Ice Cream in your cookbook (any flavor).
You'll find the two kids looking for something to do near the mine. They've already done some fishing and found lots of pretty stones, and now the kids are deciding what to do next. They start to tell you all about their adventures when Paolo mentions how hot it is outside. The summer heat has parched Chloe's throat, and she is wanting to eat some cold ice cream.
At this point you'll be prompted to give the kids some ice cream. If you don't have any in your rucksack, then your friendship with Chloe and Paolo will decrease by 1 heart. If you do happen to be carrying around some ice cream (or you're aware of this event and are prepared in advance) then you'll increase your friendship with the kids.
If you hand over some tasty ice cream then the kids will reward you with one of the pretty rocks they found. You'll be rewarded with a single Rare Ore.
Making Mira Smile
Walk into Celesta Church during the Fall season when Perry is at 3 hearts or more. Perry seems to be deeply thinking about something, and it takes awhile to get his attention.
Perry is wondering about love, and is concerned about Mira. She always comes to the church to pray but she always seems so sad. Mira doesn't smile much since her husband died. Perry wants to give her a gift, even if it only makes her a little happy. He mentions a blue flower that might work.
Bring Perry either a Morning Glory or a Bluemist Flower. Perry thanks you for your help. Right after you give Perry the blue colored flower, Mira comes to the church for a visit. Her being there startles Perry, and he gives her the flower after becoming nervous and mixing up his words. Mira smiles and accepts his gift; blue was her husband's favorite color.
Perry suggests that she take the flower and put it at her husband's grave. Mira thanks him for the flower and she leaves for the cemetery.
After she leaves, Perry is glad that he was able to see her smile. You will get the recipes for Vegetable Juice and Bodigizer as rewards.
Visit the Toucan Island inn during the Winter season when Samson and Sue are at 3 hearts or higher and you have level 3 or higher fishing skill.
The two islander are glad to see you've come for a visit. Sue asks if you do any fishing. Samson is requesting that you bring them a Halibut. The fish likes cold water and the water around their island is too warm to find one.
Pacific Halibut is one of the eight difficult King Fish. This one requires you to have a Silver Fishing Pole or higher. The rare fish can be caught from the Lighthouse in Harmonica Town. Cast your line in a western direction from where the white cat can be found. You will be able to catch a Pacific Halibut at power level 3 and 4.
When you catch the king fish, bring it back to Samson and Sue. They are both delighted that you were able to find the fish they requested. To reward you, Samson gives you a Southern Sea Omelet Rice Recipe, and Sue gives you a South Sea Seal Doll.
The doll is an accessory you can place inside of your house, like any other piece of furniture. It looks like a small, stuffed animal so it would look good in your children's room.
Wizard's Crystal Ball
After you chime the Green Bell, go back and talk to Wizard inside his house. He asks if you know anything about his missing crystal ball. Wizard seems to have dropped it. Finn suggests that the two of you search for him.
Head to the Orcarina Inn and talk to Colleen. She says lately her husband has been acting strange. Colleen asks that you go talk to him for her.
Talk to Jake, who denies anything strange is going on. He has just been trying to give her everything she wants as soon as she thinks about it. It seems that Jake can read his wife's mind! He won't tell you how he does it though. He mentions how they close their shop at 10pm (22:00); there isn't any point in coming in after that time.
After Jake walks away, Finn thinks maybe Jake is using the Wizard's crystal ball.
Walk back into the inn after 10:00 pm. Inside you won't find anyone, but in the back room you'll find Jake obsessing over the crystal ball! He has been using its powers to read other people's mind, specifically his wife's.
Jake argues that the crystal ball is his because he found it. When Wizard walks in, Jake immediately knows that he's there for the crystal ball. The wiz convinces the innkeeper to return the magic ball to him. Jake realizes he doesn't need a crystal ball to make his family happy.
At this point you can visit the Wizard's house and use the crystal ball to peer into the hearts of the marriage candidates. The wizard has to be standing next to the crystal ball before you can ask him to check up on a potential spouse, which is usually after 12:00 pm. Wizard will also give you special gift suggestions (multi-heart result) that the person will like.
Not all of the spouses are available to spy on. You can't look at Wizard, Witch, Harvest Goddess, or Harvest King.
