Gordy

screenshot

Gordy is a heavy thinker who always observes the world around him, looking for that one spark of inspiration to guide him toward creating his next metal masterpiece. An industrial artist by trade, Gordy is difficult to understand. He keeps to himself and is always quietly contemplating something; arms cross in front of him while staring at the ground. Once he gets a great idea, Gordy returns to his studio in the southwest corner of Forgotten Valley, molding metal into strange sculptures with his bare hands.

In the original Gamecube game, Gordy was not a marriage candidate. Cody (as he was known then) was a creative metal artist, just like he is in this remake. The addition of his events during Chapter 1 gives an insight into his creative process.

Gift Preferences

Milk (Rank B, A, or S), wild flowers (Toy Flower, Mistbloom, Happy Lamp, Upseed, etc.), and ores found at the excavation site (e.g., Moonlight Ore) are great gifts to give to Gordy. The sticky part is giving him a gift. When Gordy is standing with arms crossed, he will not accept gifts. You must wait for him to walk or uncross his arms. Sometimes this can take 20 in-game minutes. If you're unlucky, Gordy could uncross his arms and then immediately cross his arms again, forcing you to wait even longer.

Gordy also likes sheep's wool, though I recommend that you sell the wool for 3000 G (normal), 4500 G (pretty), or 6000 G (gold) instead of giving it as a gift. There are less-profitable items he likes just as much as wool. You won't earn any extra friendship by giving him high-profit goods.

Gordy will comment the next day if you give him Grapes.

Introduction

screenshot

You see Gordy staring into the ocean. He doesn't acknowledge your presence.

Option 1A: What are you doing?

He's thinking. Ok...

Option 1B: .....

Hmm, still no response.

You look closer at the water, but nothing unusual is there. Puzzled, you step back and look again. Oh, maybe there is something there after all...

Option 2A: Something's glowing! or Option 2B: Ah!

Gordy finally stops his silent meditation. He, too, sees something shimmering and splashing, commenting on how the ocean's waves are always coming in and receding. Gordy then turns around and quietly walks away.

2-Heart Event

Gordy is lost in thought again and starts to wonder off before he notices you're there.

Option 1A: Go make sure he's all right

Gordy walks over to the turtle pond and paces back and forth a few times. You walk over to check up on him. He admits that there's nothing wrong; he's just... stuck. Gordy looks at you and starts talking about farm stuff: vegetables, soil, water, and sun. His pacing has gotten much faster!

Option 2A: Uh, what?

It's nothing, but Gordy asks that you leave him alone.

Option 2B: Oh, I know! You should visit my farm sometime! (+10 affection with Gordy)

Gordy says he wants to go but then turns around and thinks aloud again. Could it be this simple? Hmm... Gordy says he'll visit next time and thanks you for the offer. He appears to be in a better mood.

Option 1B: Leave

This isn't any of your business, so you turn around and walk back the way you came.

4-Heart Event

You see Gordy near the entrance of your farm, pacing back and forth as he does. He explains that you had invited him to visit the farm, so here he is. Can he check out your fields?

Option 1A: Of course! Take all the time you need!

Gordy is thankful for your invitation. Gordy starts to stare and ponder your fields while you start playing with your dog in the distance. Eventually, you and the doggo end up behind a building where Gordy can't see you.

Takakura notices the artist. It's rare for Gordy to be on the farm. Takakura noticed that Gordy had been looking at the fields. Out of caution, Gordy asks Takakura if there is something wrong. Takakura replies and explains that he's about to start weeding the fields...

Option 2A: Say nothing.

Ah, is that so? That's not for him, so Gordy leaves before Takakura can object. You come out from behind the building and explain that Gordy was your guest. Takakura wonders if he did something wrong to cause Gordy to leave.

Option 2B: Go explain the situation. (+10 affection with Gordy)

You run out from behind the building and explain to Takakura that Gordy is here as a guest. Ah, well then, Takakura asks that Gordy take all the time he wants and feel free to ignore him weeding the field.

Once Takakura leaves, Gordy asks if it is really okay for him to be here. He doesn't want to be in the way. You tell him he's okay and give him a tour of the fields.

Afterwards, Gordy apologizes for taking your time, but this experience was helpful.

Option 1B: I'm busy right now

Gordy looks disappointed but acknowledges that he stopped by without informing you in advance. That was wrong of him to do. Gordy turns around and leaves.

6-Heart Event

You hear Gordy say your name from behind his mega-sculpture, but when you arrive, he seems surprised. Perhaps he said your name unconsciously while he was deep in thought. Anyhow, Gordy's thought process was stuck again, so he came outside for some fresh air.

Option 1A: Then I won't interrupt

Gordy says his goodbyes and gets back to work.

Option 1B: Want to do something fun together?

He thinks for a moment and finally agrees; it is good to have a change of pace sometimes.

The two of you wander around, talking and enjoying each other's company. Eventually you stop at the bench by the stream. Gordy mentions how nice the breeze feels. Even the soil, rocks, and boulders help to make the beautiful scenery of the valley.

Option 2A: There are lots of great people, too (+10 affection with Gordy)

Ah, that's true. Gordy admits he feels a little refreshed. This may be a good spot to have a snack. He then pulls an orange out of his pants. Gordy offers to share his pocket fruit, which you accept and devour.

Option 2B: How is this even fun?

Gordy regrets his decision to take a break. He does better when thinking alone. He then heads back to the workshop.

8-Heart Event

screenshot

You find Gordy partially collapsed outside of his workshop. You help him inside, where he tells you he's okay. Gordy has been doing much deep thinking lately and apologizes for causing concern.

Option 1A: You're always too serious! (-5 affection with Gordy)

Gordy turns around. He's fine now and requests some alone time.

Option 1B: What were you thinking about?

Since you've moved to the valley... nah, Gordy changes his mind and thinks a bit more. He tells you it is nothing, but Gordy explains that recently, he came up with the strangest ideas. It's not a concept he's accustomed to, and he is now concerned that it's not the right path for him. He feels lost.

Option 2A: Maybe you should stick with what you know.

Gordy paces a bit and then agrees. He needs to rethink this direction. Gordy intends to return to his creative process and asks that you leave.

Option 2B: Do you not like those new ideas? (+10 affection with Gordy)

He's surprised by your response and admits that he doesn't flat-out dislike the ideas, but... Gordy thinks for a bit. Since you're here, could you stay for a bit? He might be able to work through these strange ideas while he talks to you about them.

Proposal Event

screenshot

Gordy takes you to the beach. He asks if you're sure you want to give him this feather, which you confirm. After accepting the feather, Gordy says that he has heard rumors that a Blue Feather exists, though this is the first time he's seen one. Gordy looks at the ocean and explains that he had dedicated his life to his craft. Hopefully you don't feel left out. Even so, Gordy hopes you will be by his side for the rest of his life.

Engagement Event

screenshot

Gordy asks that you go with him because he wants to show you something. On the way to his workshop, you bump into Hugh. The mini-jogger asks Gordy if he finished the project he had been cheerfully working on. Gordy has been working on it a long time, and to Hugh, it looked like he was having fun. Sully emerges from their house and the two head out for a jog. Gordy thinks and realizes that maybe he was having fun, then looks at you and smiles.

Gordy takes you to his shop, where you can see that the giant outdoor sculpture has been improved; there are spikes and metal intertwined everywhere!

Option 1A: I love it! or Option 1B: It has a certain... warmth to it

Gordy is glad you approve, as hearing it from you feels good. He explains that his art is usually created about things that he can't obtain no matter what he does. But with this sculpture, Gordy wanted to shape what he has now. It's the first time he's made something that's incredibly precious to him. He smiles and says you must have been his inspiration.

The transformation of the sculpture will carry over into Chapter 2 and beyond. If you do not see this event, the sculpture outside Gordy's workshop will look the same as it always does.
