Lumina

screenshot

Lumina and her aunt Romana and butler Sebastian live in the elegant villa on the western side of Forgotten Valley. She spends her afternoons practicing the piano or hanging around in the villa garden, seemingly living a rather secluded lifestyle because of her age compared to everyone else in the valley. With nobody around to relate to, Lumina is a bit socially awkward. She's at a point in her life where she's no longer a child but not yet an adult.

In this remake of AWL, Lumina's age was increased to counteract the weirdness of having child-like Lumina as a marriage candidate in AWL Special Edition (2005 for PlayStation 2). Even with a young Chapter 1 form, Lumina ages to her adult form at the start of Chapter 2.

You can earn bonus affection with Lumina if you use the mirror inside your farmhouse every day to change your hair color, hair style, or outfit.

Starting Friendship: 50 out of 100 points

Gift Preferences

Lumina is easy to raise affection with by just giving her wildflowers. While the other candidates won't take two wildflowers on the same day, Lumina is fine with receiving multiple wildflowers as long as they are two different types (Exception: she will accept 2 Goddess Drops on the same day. Thanks for the update!) Her tastes are not as elaborate as the other marriage candidates, presumably because of her younger age.

She also likes eggs and mushrooms.

Introduction Event

Walking past the inn, you hear a polite voice behind you. Lumina catches up and asks if you remember her from the other day; she lives at the villa with her aunt and their butler. She moved to Forgotten Valley when she was very young, so there hasn't been anyone around her age she can talk to. When Lumina heard that you were moving to the farm... well, she hoped that the two of you could get along. Lumina becomes nervous. Before she scampers off, Lumina says she hopes to have another chance to talk to you sometime.

2-Heart Event

You, Romana, and Rock are listening to Lumina's piano practice session in the villa. Romana points out that while Lumina's playing is spot-on, she wishes her niece would be more interpretive.

After Romana leaves, Lumina confesses that Romana has been giving her the same suggestion for a while now, which makes her piano playing challenging. She doesn't understand her aunt's "play freely" advice.

Option 1A: Work harder, and you'll play better.

Lumina is already working hard! She doesn't know how she can practice more than she already is. Rock suggests she chill out; why do people use sheet music anyway? Rock sees it as nonsense that composers wrote to show off how cool they think their music is. They're simply notes written on a piece of paper to be used as a tool to help the musician play. If Lumina kept strictly to the written notes, Rock assumes she would stop having fun.

Lumina understands what Rock is saying. As he leaves, Rock explains to you that there's a slim margin between giving helpful advice and belittling someone.

Option 1B: Have some fun with it! (+10 affection with Lumina)

Do you have a moment to chat? Lumina explains that she started learning piano from Aunt Romana when she was three years old. Romana would praise her if she played without making a mistake, but as time passed, Lumina felt pressured to play the piano because her skills were being compared to her mother's. Because of that expectation, Lumina was afraid to make mistakes or disappoint her aunt. Lumina thought Romana was trying to make her a replacement for her mom. Now that idea sounds ridiculous to her, as Romana has been directing Lumina to play the piano more freely. Lumina feels better about talking to you about it and hopes to have more fun with the music.

4-Heart Event

Lumina is pleased to have a visitor. Are you here to spend time with her? Lumina asks if you have a moment to talk with her.

Option 1A: I'd love to!

Lumina tells you that the books she has been reading are a collection of art drawn by an old friend of her aunt. She's always found their work fascinating. The pictures are always warm and comforting.

Option 2A: What sort of pictures are they?

Lumina starts to explain the pieces in the book.

Option 2B: Warm like a grilled sweet potato?

She chuckles. Not exactly, but that's an entertaining thought!

Each picture has two or more people, like two boys, an older man and an older woman, and so on. Lumina can tell that the artist's feelings are clearly conveyed in their art. Her favorite is one of a young woman playing the piano while an older woman watches. She's alway been envious of those two subjects.

Option 3A: Because you want an older sibling? or Option 3B: Because you want someone to play piano with? (+10 affection and +10 friendship with Lumina)

Yes, exactly.

Lumina confesses that since you've arrived, it feels like she has a new edition to her family. Spending time with you is delightful! If only you could play the piano with her. That's impossible though, as you have your farm to care for. Lumina hopes she hasn't taken too much of your time.

Lumina walks you to the door and wishes you luck. Maybe Liz and Tanya will play with her in the meantime. After you leave, Lumina says she eagerly awaits your next visit.

Option 1B: I'm busy, but maybe next time! (-5 affection with Lumina)

Really? Lumina is annoyed at first, but then accepts that a farmer is naturally busy. She walks you out of the villa. Maybe Liz and Tanya would like to spend time with her instead. After you leave, Lumina says she eagerly awaits your next visit.

(Liz and Tanya may be the villa cats.)

6-Heart Event

Sebastian welcomes you to the villa. He has finished preparing a new dish and asks if you would taste-test the food. As he leads you to the kitchen, you pass by Romana's room and can hear voices through the door. While Sebastian continues onto the kitchen, you stand back to listen.

Romana is chuckling at something Lumina is talking to her about. Lumina doesn't understand what's so funny, but Romana finds it endearing. Lumina still doesn't understand how it can be so great if it causes so much heartace.

Sebastian finally notices you aren't there and calls you from the kitchen. He is very annoyed that you have been eavesdropping on the ladies. Sebastian demands that you hurry up into the kitchen, where he shows you the new meal he has crafted. Come on, take a bite! Sebastian asks for your opinion of the food.

Option 1A: You've outdone yourself, Sebastian! (+5 stamina recovery)

That's great! Sebastian has been working on the recipe for a long time and hopes that Romana and Lumina will enjoy the meal.

Option 1B: It's awful... (+5 stamina recovery)

Sebastian is a bit disappointed. From the aroma of the meal, he assumed it was something splendid. Sebastian apologizes for making you be his test subject; he really should try these things himself.

By the way, Sebastian has noticed Lumina is growing lovlier by the day. Sebastian was inspirted to celebrate by cooking a feast. Perhaps she is in love? Sebastian wonders who the other person could be. The same thing happened when Romana was around Lumina's age, which also caused him some concern back then. Finding a first love is said to be doomed from the start. Sebastian wants to help Lumina to ensure that's not the case for Lumina.

The butler realizes he's kept you long enough, especially since he practically forced you to help him. Sebastian needs to clean up now and thanks you for assisting him today.

8-Heart Event

Lumina follows you out of the house and asks if you would take her to the beach.

Option 1A: SHORE I will!

Great! As you walk towards the water, Lumina comments how comfortable you've become living in Forgotten Valley. She doesn't visit the beach area often because she gets sunburned. Lumina then abruptly asks if you remember what it was like the first time you were in love.

Option 2A: I've never fallen in love.

Option 2B: I can't remember...

Option 2C: What was yours like?

Me? Lumina blushes and replies that she doesn't understand what she's saying! Since her conversation with Romana, she hasn't been herself. Technically, Lumina loves everyone in Forgotten Valley, which would include you. But when she's alone in her room, all she thinks about is you. Her heart feels like it's being squeezed. It's only thinking of you that causes Lumina pain. That's what she doesn't understand. Perhaps Lumina thinks of you as a sibling.

Option 3A: I feel the same way! (-5 affection with Lumina)

Option 3B: Are you sure? (+5 affection with Lumina)

Before Lumina could finish her sentence, you hear Sebastian calling out for her. The butler is out searching for Lumina. She starts to leave but then stops and asks that you keep this to yourself. Lumina invites you to visit her at the villa some time.

Option 1B: Sorry, I'm busy.

(Lumina does not have a 9-Heart Event. Only the girls from the original Nintendo Gamecube game have going-steady events, and Lumina was a marraige candidate added to the PlayStation 2 version.)

Proposal Event

screenshot

Lumina asks if that's really a Blue Feather, then continues to say that she needs to let Romana know about this.

In Romana's room, the older woman is in shock, with Sebstian trying to keep her calm. Romana isn't having it; how could her sweet Lumina leave her so soon?! Romana asks if Lumina truly makes you happy.

Option 1A: Absolutely!

Romana is bothered by your confidence. She pauses for a moment and then chuckles. Were you all surprised by her response? It turns out that Romana was pulling a prank and had to apologize to Sebastian after he scolded her for causing him grief. Romana says not all of it is a joke, though; Lumina is indeed an important person to her.

Romana turns her attention to Lumina. She could tell that her niece has been in love with you this whole time. Romana gives you and Lumina her blessing to get married. Spending your life with the one you love is wonderful. Getting married is the most difficult challenge in one's life.

Romana then turns her attention to you, telling you to make Lumina happy. Lumina is ready to go with you now, but Romana objects. Her niece still needs to be educated on married life. Sebastian agrees as this training is necessary for Lumina to learn how to take care of herself. Lumina thinks this is for the best too. She'll stay with Aunt Romana and Sebastian for a while and can't wait for the wedding..

In the Japanese version of the game, Romana says that Lumina can't marry yet because she needs to be trained to be a proper lady, with Sebastian confirming that this training is necessary for Lumina to be a good wife. Lumina replies that this idea is for the best to make her the ideal partner for you. This dialog is the same as it was in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition for Playstation 2.

The English version of SoS:AWL has updated dialog that states Lumina is to be trained simply on "married life," with Sebastian stating that it's good for those who have cared for Lumina for so long to teach her how to take care of herself. Then Lumina says she's looking forward to the wedding.

Option 1B: Um...

(This answer brings you back to Romana's question.)

Engagement Event

screenshot

Lumina has stopped by to see if you want to go on a date. There's a place she wants to go: the Bluebird Cafe. She's always wanted to come here and have a drink with you, and she's heard it has a relaxed atmophere where anyone can speak freely.

Inside the cafe, Lumina comments on how nice the interior is. Molly welcomes her into the cafe while Gavin starts preparing food. He's happy to see shy Lumina stop by for a visit. . Even Molly was surprised at the news and wondered if only she had a little more courage; ah, it's nothing. Forget she said anything. To celebrate your engagement, Molly and Gavin serve you two some delicious cake.

Gavin tells Lumina that sometimes she will want some alone time. When that occurs, Lumina can come here to the Bluebird cafe to relax for a bit.

As you leave, Lumina thanks you for going with her to her first cafe visit. It's the first time she's seen Molly at work. She looks so lovely and elegant. And we had cake to celebrate! Lumina realizes that she sounds childish and asks what kind of person do you like. Maybe you're not into adult-like people.

Option 1A: You're my type, silly!

Your answer makes Lumina happy. She apologizes for being nervous.

Option 1B: I prefer the diligent, honest type

Lumina pauses until she realizes that you mean someone like her. She blushes because she didn't think you thought of her like that!

Lumina wasn't sure if she's the right match for you, but she pledges to become the best version of herself.

This is another update from the Japanese version. Keeping in mind that the cafe was a bar in the original game, Lumina wants to visit the cafe because she heard it's a place where adults go to hang out. Gavin comments on how the young girl has grown into a splendid adult. He also reminds her that she can visit if she needs time away from her family. After leaving the cafe, Lumina will comment on how grown-up Molly is and asks if your preference is for mature people.
