Daryl is cackling to himself about something. When he notices you're near, he asks what do you want.
Option 1A: Just saying hi.
Daryl is in no mood for pleasantries and asks you to leave. He's about to start an experiment that will greatly influence his research. You turn around and leave his laboratory.
Option 1B: What's going on...?
Daryl explains that he's researching the potential collection of solar energy. If he can successfully harness the sun's energy, he could power the valley - no, wait, the WHOLE WORLD! Daryl turns around and shows you the device he built to store the sun's energy. Daryl explains that you're about to witness a scientific miracle!
He turns on his solar-storage device and starts to observe. Everything is going well for now.
Option 2A: I'm outta here! (-2 friendship with Daryl)
You quickly head outside before something happens. Once you have escaped, you hear Daryl says that something isn't going right with his experiment. Suddenly there's an explosion! You can hear Daryl grumble, saying he needs to make improvements before he could consider this test a success.
Opiton 2B: I'm sure everything is fine (+5 friendship with Daryl)
Daryl's device begins to spew smoke. Ut oh... something is not right. Suddenly, a bright explosion takes out the solar unit, followed by the lights in the lab going out! Daryl soon has the power restored and tells you that he still has some work to do before this experiment can be considered a success.
