Cecilia and Matthew's Rival Events

To trigger a rival event, you cannot have seen the event participants' 8-Heart Event or have given the marriage candidate a Blue Feather to propose marriage.

Rival Event 1

You see Matthew watching over the fields, but when you look closer, he's watching Cecilia working in the fields. When he finally notices that you're watching him watching her, Matthew asks that you stop staring at him.

When he realizes you aren't going anywhere, Matthew admits that he's felt that Cecilia has changed recently. She seems happier than she usually is. Matthew wonders if perhaps Cecilia has fallen in love with someone. Well, it better be someone who's a good match for her. Matthew wants her to be happy.

Rival Event 2

Cecilia and Matthew are both on your farm. You watch Cecilia run up to Matthew and ask him what's wrong. She feels that he's been avoiding her lately. If she's done something wrong, Cecilia would like to apologize for it as quickly as possible. Matthew tells her she's done nothing wrong. In fact, he doesn't think he's been intentionally ignoring her at all.

He doesn't see how it's even possible for that to happen, as he could never do something like that to her. Cecilia is finally convinced and feels much better! She apologizes for asking him about this and starts heading back to Vesta's farm.

Matthew then notices you've watched the entire exchange. Oh bother... Matthew explains that he and Cecilia have worked on the farm togther for the past 2 years. Because of that, she's an important part of his family, just like like a sister. Matthew has been thinking a lot about that lately; whether his feelings towards her are from the perspective as her being a sister or if what he's been feeling has been more romantic. Matthew just doesn't know...

Rival Event 3

You hear Vesta calling out for Cecilia. Matthew asks if you have seen her, as she has yet to return home. Vesta remains calm since nothing bad has happened, but Matthew worries that something dreadful could have happened to Cecilia. Before Vesta can say anything more, Matthew runs off to search for Cecilia. Where could she have gone?

Matthew runs all over, eventually locating Cecilia by the waterfall next to the dig site. He scampers over and asks if she's okay. His obvious panic is puzzling to her. Cecilia explains that she intended to take a short break by the waterfall, but the soothing sound of the water caused her to fall asleep! Matthew scolds her for causing him to worry and asks Cecilia to promise to not to disappear like this again. The two of them walk back to the farm.
