Rival Events
While you're the only person in the valley that gets married, the game does have several cannon couples that, in another lifetime, might be perfect for each other. These rival events can occur when you meet the season requirements and have not seen a person's 8-Heart event or engaged to be married to them. None of the couples will marry, and the events have no impact on your relationship with the marriage candidate, but they're nice little nods to what-could-have-been situations.
Rival events only happen in Chapter 1: Beginnings. These events are available between Gustafa and Nami, Cecilia and Matthew, and Lumina and Rock. Molly and Gordy do not have rival events with anyone.
From my experience, you can't see two rival events featuring the same couple on the same day, but you can see multiple rival events involving different couples.
