PROLOG STORY

When Ark was young, and his heart was an open book, he fought for the land of… er (cough) Foguru. When he banished Dark Gaia and freed the land, he retired to a village in Storkholm, where he miraculously found all of his old friends – alive and not evil. The village was made up of bushes, which people lived behind. It was great.

But there was one problem – Ark had become philosophical. He would question his friend’s ethics continually, and make them take tests of moral purity.

Despairing over this, two of his greatest friends decided to go on a journey with him, to both cure his philosophical-ness and teach him the value of love.

Little did they know, the journey would prove to be full of side-quests, incredible coincidence and frequent death and revival at designated save points.

These two young friends were Elle and Bob.

MAJOR CHARACTERS

Elle – The young maiden – the only one who truly understands Ark. She was held under suspicion of several murders in the land of Foguru, but there was never enough evidence to support the accusations. Her favourite song is ‘Desperado’, and her favourite film is ‘Harold and Maude’.

Bob – Bob was found just outside the village where Ark and Elle live, under a cabbage. He bears an uncanny likeness to both Meilin and the Elder. Meilin and the Elders’ lawyers have confirmed there is no connection. Bob looks up to Ark in every way, and he will not rest until his friend is back in his normal state.

The Great Elroro – Ringmaster and general funny man, The Great Elroro (or TGER, as he is referred to in-game) turns up at several stages to thwart our hero’s mission. One such instance is near the middle of the game, where Ark has run away from his friends to find true peace somewhere. Of course, The Great Elroro is involved, and Elle and Bob soon find themselves dangling over a pot of noodles prepared by his sidekick. How will you escape The Great Elroro’s evil plans? Only by playing TERRANIGMA 2 will you find out!

Noodle Genie – The sacreligious priest of Freedom hides our hero’s in his church when they are being persued by The Great Elroro. Unwittingly, they find what they believe to be a brothel, and are suddenly thrown into a hilarious story of death, muggings and pizza.

King Lampricot – The ruler of a small colony of apricot which live in the forest, he is soon revealed to be a human called Lamp King in disguise. Once his disguise has been uncovered, Lamp King (a distant brother of Noodle Genie) will become your ally, until he later dies in the thrilling end sequence.

Terranigma 2 Freak – Called Mpie Freak in game, he is a simple man who begs for a living. When he sees Ark, Elle and Bob, he draws a picture of them which he later sells to a gallery owner (who turns out to be The Great Elroro). This leads to a short dungeon, followed by an easy boss.

Potathello – The final character we look at is Potathello, a dark stalker who will follow anyone for money. Strangely, he follows Elle without the promise of money. You first see signs of him in your house after you have been to the castle to meet Princess Kaka, and also gone to a secret village which is hidden unless you use a secret flute tune taught to you by your Grandma Lolo.

*many other attractive, intriguing and captivating characters await Elle and Bob’s arrival.

GETTING STARTED

Your journey starts in a bush

During or after the opening sequence, press START. The Restart screen will appear if you have any saved games. If you have more than one saved game, the game will crash. Also, if you have one or less saved games, the game will crash.

Take a stroll through the bush

There are several interesting features of the ‘bush’ area. We suggest you visit all the local people to get some information. Using A button, you can open doors, speak to people and check things.

The Elder’s Bush

Behind the larger bush is the elder’s dwelling. Currently, you can’t speak to him as his lawyers are delegating what he should say to you. His dwelling has many posters of Meilin.

The Weaver’s Bush

The leafy bush contains the weavers. If you stand on the weavings, they turn into frogs and try to eat you. Be sure to use your tadpole sword to dispose of them.

The bushes

The should also take a stroll through the various bushes, visit homes and chat with people, animals, and perhaps others (clue – try talking to trees, grass, air, oxygen and plums)

I>

Meilin’s bush

The smallest bush in the town of bushes belongs to Meilin. She has little to say, unless you can find a way to tempt her. (Hint – she likes oxygen)

Saving and loading files

To save your game, you must first find the hidden lord of the bush town. Once you find her, you must defeat her by using the ‘Excessive Gail’ magic, and then scoop up her essence into a bottle (you can get a bottle from the ranch). Take the essence to the local ‘Lord of Bush town essence changer’ (there are 16 branches in the land of Foguru) and he/she will make it into a save place. This save place must first be dipped in special save oils – available from the local ‘save oil’ shop. However, the shop sometimes needs special trees to take oil from, and Elle and Bob must take them to the shop. Once the save oils have been showered over the save point, it can be thrown into a ‘save point vortex’ where it will be held for three real hours before being released at a random point. If you find it, you can save your game! As long as you have four thousand gold.

Shopping

Shopping in most shops is a simple affair, involving trading gems for goods. However, in ‘Moralnicht’ the town with no morals, you must trade the body of one of your team for goods. If you have Meilin in your team, you can buy whatever you want!

ONE POINT Q & As

Q: I am in the casino, and Elle has just been abducted by The Great Elroro. When the game asks me to keep one team member behind in the casino, who should I choose and why?

A: Well, what happens to the remaining member is that he gets to meet the mysterious Potathello! You should choose a team member with a low ‘Surprisability’ score.

Q: When I first met the Great Elroro, he told me that he would end up saving the world. What did he mean?

A: The Great Elroro is surprisingly a man of great courage. In the spectacular ending sequence, he sacrifices himself if you have Meilin in your team, and she has a ‘Elroro sacrifice’ level above level 9. If he sacrifices himself, you automatically get Meilin to live after the last boss.

Q: I saved the game in the bush at the beginning, but when I try to reload, it crashes? Who can help?

A: If you read the small print, you will find that saving autonamtically voids your warranty. Sorry.

Q: When Noodle Genie asks if I will play with him, what should I say? Does he really run a brothel?

A: If you play with Noodle Genie, he will give up being a priest and come and live with you forever. Effectively, playing with him ruins your chance of running a succesful farm when the game is over (yes, there is a secret hidden farm simulator for people who complete the game!!!). No, he is not running a brothel, he just likes having those women around him. (Hint – if you want the jeweled Ark statue, ask the girl called Rachel for ‘The whole package’. When she says it will ‘Cost you £20’, reply ‘I don’t think so, darling’. She will give you the jewelled Ark statue.)

Q: I’m confused, I have the manual, but no game! What is this?

A: The manual was created in one evening, from the times of 11.30pm to 12.49am. Effectively one and a quarter hours. You should be damn thankful it’s of such high quality!
