Part 1: Nushikiri Village

The doors When you first awaken from falling through the pond, you'll see a small squirrel next to an opened, grey colored door. Before you follow the squirrel, walk in front of the western yellow pillar next to the pond and then press the A Button. You will investigate the ground and find a yellow Tree Nut. If you eat the nut from your backpack you will increase your strength by 2. You'll be using your A Button a lot to scavenge for bait, food, Tree Nuts, and items you can sell to the store for money.

After you walk through the door and up the path you'll see the squirrel head west. Instead of going that way head east to the dead end. At the end of the path you'll find a green Tree Nut, which will increase your skill by 2 points after you eat it. Go back up and follow the squirrel.

At the 4 way crossing the squirrel will head north. If you choose to go west instead, you'll find a strange tree along the path. You can talk to the tree (press the A Button), who is quite surprised to see a person in the area and thinks you're a sneaky fox in human form.

When you reach the end of the path you'll see the squirrel run across a bridge to the north. The strange thing is that there's no other humans around! Keep following him until you go into a cave, where you'll be greeted by another boy.

Shizuki and Kikku The boy says that there's nobody else in the village except him, and introduces himself as Shizuki. His little squirrel friend is Kikku. He asks where you came from and you can tell him that you followed the squirrel, you're from another country, or you just don't understand his question. It doesn't matter what choice you choose because Shizuki's response will be the same. He will request that you try to fish close to where they are. It's a strange request but if you agree then Shizuki will give you some equipment to use and say if you get tired you can rest at the Elder's house.

As you leave the cave the squirrel will shout at you! Kikku asks if he can go with you. After he notices you are staring at him in disbelief (a talking squirrel!?) he says he won't hesitate talking anymore. Shizuki is actually a Shaman who has been taught a fortune-telling skill, so Kikku thinks the fishing request is for testing Shizuki's revelation.

Weird fish! After you build your fishing pole and you've scrounged up some more bait off the ground, head to the stream and cast your line. The first thing you'll catch will most likely be an Amago, but it's a strange fish! As you pull it out of the water it will transform into a villager! The person will thank you and explains that he runs the store. When the person vanishes to return back to his store, Kikku thinks you better go back to Shizuki and tell him what happened.

Shizuki is surprised to hear that you caught a fish that turned into a man. He explains that the villagers were touched by the forest spirit's anger, who turned all the people into fish. He then pleads with you to help the transformed villagers! Shizuki says the spirits had told him that a hero from another world would arrive and he believes that is you.

Head out of the cave to the stream directly east and cast your line. If you catch another Amago it will transform into the Fish Shop keeper. Now you can visit her shop in the village and sell the fish when your basket gets too full.

In the same area, a little south of the island in the middle of the stream, you'll catch a Wakasagi. The silver fish will transform into Kiyou, one of the villagers. Kiyou was worried that he might get eaten if he was caught, but you saved him. He invites you to visit him at his house and then teleports away.

The Baron If you walk back to the village center you might bump into the Super Baron, a mole creature who pops out of the ground to tell you that the house he is by is not the Elder's house to rest at. The Barons are scattered around in the game to give you guidance, but what they tell you is always the opposite of what should be true! After they give their advice they will dig back underground so you can continue.

The next fish on your list is a large one, found in the far south area close to where you entered Nushikiri. You can see it's larger shadow in the water among the normal sized fish. Cast in your line to catch the Haruken, which turns into a very large man who silently teleports away. Kikku suggests that you go talk to him to the north.

Big Mountain Man The man lives north of Shizuki's cave. His house is next to a large pond and he announces that it's his pond! The man then recognizes that you're the one who helped him and thanks you but Kikku thinks something else is bothering him. The large man will not move out of the way to grant you access to his pond.

Leave him be for awhile and go look for some more trapped villagers. You can find them in the same southern area where you found the Haruken fish. If you have problems finding them try sleeping at the Elder's house to get the fish to repopulate in the stream. The 2 villagers are Iwana fish. One of them will say he hasn't seen Hatsune or her mother and he thinks they headed toward the mountain, while the other believes the Elder is somewhere in Kiyou's house.

Village Elder Kiyou suggests you check out the fish tank in his house. He says that the large mountain man had put a fish in it and it keeps splashing around. Kiyou asks you to fish it out of the tank. The Itou transforms back into the Elder, who explains that the large man's name is Gonsaku. Elder then requests that Kiyou go talk to Gonsaku. Follow Kiyou to the north.

After crossing the bridge you'll find Kiyou coming back! He says he needs to go talk to the Elder about a matter and then runs off. Keep going north and talk to Gonsaku. He asks if you're there for fishing, and then moves out of the way so you can reach his pond. Gonsaku explains that a very gentle girl and her equally gentle mother was transformed along with the villagers. He would really like for her to return.

Now that's he's gone back inside of his house, cast your line in his pond. You'll catch a Cherry Trout that turns into Hatsune's Mother. Mom request that you help her daughter, who is also trapped in the pond as a fish. Cast your line again and again until you find an Iwana, which turns back into Hatsune.

Hatsune will talk to Gonsaku from outside the door to his shack. She thanks him for his help. When she was a small fish she probably would of been eaten by a large fish had it not been for him.

The Legendary Rod Now that everyone is back to normal, go back and talk with Shizuki. He will thank you for helping everybody, but there are more people in other lands that have also been transformed. You haven't returned home yet after freeing their village so Shizuki would like you to help the other people as well. He gives you the Legendary Rod, 100 Gold, and the Oven Kingdom Notebook that will keep track of all the fish you catch in the next land. Shizuki will stay at his shrine to help out but Kikku will accompany you.

The Nushikiri Village Notebook won't be at 100% but that will be completed later. Move back through the Mysterious Forest to the King Pond.
