The Ushi No Tane websites specialize in information, FAQs, and guides about the Nintendo console versions of the Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, and Legend of the River King video games. These game genres are created and published in Japan by Marvelous (JP). In other regions, you'll find Natsume, XSeed Games/Marvelous (USA), Marvelous (EU), and Rising Star involved in the series' release.

The latest version of the mainstream farming series that have been released in various regions of the world are:

  • Japan: Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (August 2025)
  • North America: Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home Special Edition (October 2025) and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (August 2025)
  • Europe: Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home Special Edition (October 2025) and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (August 2025)

The latest version of River King, in all regions of the world, is River King: Mystic Valley (JP 2007, NA 2008, EU 2009).

Since 2000, Ushi no Tane has been run by a grouchy old lady who happens to be fond of video game agriculture along with two feline helpers: Intern Captain Bootu and Intern Hondo Mewnaka. The website is not officially affiliated, sponsored, endorsed, or employed by the developers of Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, or River King. This is simply a fan site.

SoS: Grand Bazaar's Bizarre Bazaar, and a Few Indie Game Updates | Posted at 03:40 PM 09 May 2025

Happy Farm'n Friday! The extra burgundy beans I started may have found a home after all. It turns out the indoor seedlings the sister-in-law started all lost their leaves after she put them outside, and now she needs more burgundy beans to grow. Huzzah! Well, not "huzzah" about her crop loss, but excited that I won't be bombarded with beans after all.

SoS: GB Updates

In this week's Zephyr Town Walker article from the official Bokumono website, Mayor Felix walks us through setting up the bazaar booth. If you haven't played GB before, the items in your inventory can be placed on a counter to sell to passersby during the Saturday event. The bazaar in this remake is split into shifts - morning (10am to 2pm) and afternoon sessions (3pm to 7pm) - where players can sell, shop at other booths, and then sell some more. In the original, you could stop and start at any time during the bazaar as long as it was before closing time at 7:00 pm.

The prioritized items to sell at the bazaar first should be those with a Freshness rating. The fresher the item, the more it can sell for. Keeping items in your farmhouse storage keeps Freshness longer than hoarding the goods in your rucksack, so you'll want to get into a routine of putting items reserved for the bazaar day in your strange. As the item becomes less fresh, you'll earn less money when sold at the bazaar; customers don't like rotten goods, of course. Goods that don't sell out during the bazaar sessions will return to your inventory. You can sell them the next week (putting them in storage for conservation) or find another use for the leftovers.

In the original game, Miguel (previously Raul) could act as a bazaar off-day merchant, buying goods from you for 50% of what you would have earned when selling at the bazaar. I'm unsure whether Miguel has the same option in SoS:GB yet.

Not every item has a Freshness rank, such as ores, sheep wool, insects, and so on. With a limited bazaar shelf space at the beginning of the game, keep the freshness-free goods back until after the perishables have all been sold. As the bazaar booth upgrades, there will be more space to place everything out at the same time.

Mayor Felix also notes that customers sometimes may be interested in buying something not currently displayed at the bazaar booth. Players can swap goods between their rucksack and the booth's counter to entice cautious customers to hand over their G.

Another component is Cheer Time, which can trigger after selling many goods and making happy customers. This limited-time effect offered by the Nature Sprites will act as an auto-sale of sorts, where customers will buy en-mass the stocked items you have on the counter and in your inventory if you happen to run out of counter inventory. Each sprite has unique powers to help you take advantage of Cheer Time:

  • Finley: increases freshness
  • Honey: extends the Cheer Time
  • Penny: earn more money
  • Ivy: increases quantity sold
  • Webby: sell goods faster

Not every sprite will activate their superpowers at every sale during Cheer Time. What the factor is for when and how often a sprite triggers is unknown for now.

A silent reveal in this week's article is the new benefit of cooked meals. In the original DS game, meals put together in the kitchen were used to recover stamina, sold at the bazaar, or given as gifts. In the remake, besides the standard Freshness rating and stamina recovery, meals may have a Power ability.

In the case of this tasty Tomato Salad, eating this food will reduce the amount of stamina/guts expended by a little bit. As this ability is described as being "Lv 1", there are bound to be stronger food abilities that conserve stamina better than the Tomato Salad. It will be interesting to see how other meals make the gameplay easier.

Indie Updates

Yokai-themed farming game Tales of Seikyu will launch on Steam early access on May 21. The game is still in development, so the early access launch is limited to chapter 1 of the story, three creature forms (boar, slime, and tengu), and romance options for six of the 14 planned marriage candidates.

Sandbox town building and farm management game Pixelshire is now out on Steam, with Nintendo Switch and PlayStation console versions planned for release later this year. While the game has some interesting potential, Kappa Bits and publisher Merge Games admit they have more work ahead with bug corrections and adjustments, and the game may have been launched prematurely. So keep it on the radar for now.

Post-apocalyptic farming game Doloc Town is now available on Steam early access. Go through a side-scrolling adventure while also caring for a farm, facing perils such as acid rain and heat waves, as you rebuild a cozy homestead. A free demo is also available.

Summer vacation farming game Everdream Valley will soon be available in a virtual reality edition. Everdream Valley VR launches in early access on Meta Quest 2, 3, and 3S on May 15. Play through the eyes of the game's young protagonist as they care for crops and animals, go fishing, cook meals, and spend the summer exploring the areas around their grandparents' farm.

Until next time!
