Latest Farming Video Game News

Release Date and Nintendo Direct | Posted at 03:26 PM 21 December 2013
Happy late Friday! Lots of new Harvest Moon news is running around. First off, the Nintendo 3DS version of Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns is on sale in the Nintendo 3DS eShop. The game is 19.99 in both the European 3DS eShop and the North American 3DS shop for a while. The 3DS version of ToTT was never released in Japan. The downloaded version doesn't have the freezing issues that the retail NA release has. In Japan, this week's Nintendo Direct officially announced the release date for Harvest Moon: Connect to a New World to be February 27, 2014. The game will be 4800 Yen (about $46 USD) plus tax and it isn't known yet if it is retail-only or if it will also be available for download off of the 3DS eShop. Marvelous has also published the final production image for the angora rabbit strap that is the game's pre-order bonus. It looks to be about the same size (or similar size) as the duck plushie that was the pre-order bonus for Animal Parade when it was released in North America, so the rabbit is more like Japan's first plushie pre-order bonus than a phone strap. The Nintendo Direct covered the game briefly, revealing more animals that are to be part of the safari such as penguins, elephants, boars, bears, polar bears, and others. The video introduced Menou as a new female marriage candidate, bringing the current announced total to four (Lilie, Angela, Iris, and now Menou). Menou appears to be your main contact point for the Safari and giving you advice on how to care for the exotic animals.
The video also gave an example of the new player visitation feature, where other Harvest Moon players can visit your farm to care for your crops and animals. You will also be able to trade items with your visitors, as well as use emoticons and a keyboard to communicate with each other. Your StreetPassed hits will become visitors in your copy of the game, sort of how the people you sent letters to in the Japanese version of Harvest Moon Animal Parade became festival competitors; this feature was removed in the NA and EU versions of the Wii game because it was rather buggy at times. You will be able to talk to your imported villagers to view details about their own game farms such as their profits, farm name, year, animals, etc. You'll also get StreetPassed items if you talk to Veronica at the Guild. Another key feature of the Nintendo Direct is the collaboration announcement with Nintendo. The game will feature three new crops based on Mario items. The Super Mushroom will make your crops grow, the Fire Flower will burn all of the dead crops around it, and the Invincible Star appears to fertilize nearby crops.
The video also confirmed the return of the llama, jersey cow, and suffolk sheep. If you haven't heard, there will be a new chicken introduced in New World; the brown araucana chicken. With the release of the game's info in the Nintendo Direct, Marvelous has updated their official website with a wide variety of new images. One of the best features they added to the site is a short video of the game:
The videos scatted around the site show off the new crop system (where you collect and tend for each field rather than each crop), the character customization, confirmed the return of dog and cat pets, introduced the Zebu cow (also known as a Brahman cow), showed that you can receive items from your safari animals, displayed a quick screen shot of a wedding with wedding clothing, and an image of the child. There is also a quick image of the livestock animals, including a camel and a horned goat:
This weekend is JUMP Fest in Japan, where MAQL has demo stations set up with the games. Those who visit the entertainment festival will get to try the game and receive a special angora rabbit bag. You can see a picture of it at the Jump Festa website. The January edition of Nintendo Dream is out, and the 4-col series has switched into New World mode. In this episode, Ibuki applies to be a farmer in Oak Tree Town and is introduced to farming by Veronica:
