Two New Farm'n Games and a Few Indie Game Updates | Posted at 04:13 PM 12 July 2024

Happy Farm'n Friday! The weather has cooled back to a normal temperature, which I'm sure the nasturtium flowers are thankful for. The three plants I grew from seed earlier this spring were doing great until last week, but the temperature and heat were too much. Most of the leaves are gone. Maybe they'll sprout new foliage? I hope so, as the plants had just started blooming bright orange flowers. If so, it may be a while before they recover.

You know what did thrive in the heat? The one stink'n Black Diamond watermelon vine that survived all those watermelon seedling experiments. Because of course it did. Bah.

New Farm'n - Wind Story

Two-person indie team BluSped Studio is working on a mixed graphic HD-2D farming game called Wind Story. The game has players rebuilding an old homestead called Wind Chime Ranch. Farming, fishing, animal care, mining, and cooking are included, along with building construction. Create restaurants and windmills to attract visitors to the farm, eventually adding amusement park rides to entice more folks to visit. The player's pet can help with the ranch redevelopment and even protect the farm by battling monsters found on the outskirts.

You can check out the promo video, screenshots, and wishlist the game on Steam today:

New Farm'n - Horticular

Gardening and creature collecting game, Horticular from inDirection Games and publisher Slug Disco has you tasked with rebuilding a garden space to attract animals to collect (inspired by the gameplay of Viva Pinata) while at the same time warding off an evil corruption named The Nemesis. Besides the main story, the game also supports a sandbox mode where players can freely design their space without fear of bad gnomes attacking their hard work. There is weather, a day/night cycle, garden upgrades, and a mailbox system to receive quirky letters from gnome characters.

The game supports controllers and Steam Deck. It also has Twitch integration, where viewers can add their names to the pool to be assigned to new creatures and keeper gnomes. The press release also notes that Twitch streamers could receive in-game mailbox letters from their viewers. It's like a community gardening game, in that sense.

Horticular is now available on Steam, with a 10% launch-day discount until July 25.

Indie Game Updates

Space farming game Farlands will be released on Steam Early Access on July 24. In this game, players take possession of an abandoned planet in a far-away galaxy, hoping to turn it into a peaceful getaway from modern life. Unfortunately, an aggressive corporation intends to mine the entire quadrant, including the player's new home and the nearby inhabited planets. It's up to the player to work on their planet, build relationships, and prove to the galactic overseers that this little slice of space is worthy of preservation.

The game's developers also laid a roadmap for development up to the eventual 1.0 release, such as the marriage system, Steam achievements, additional planets to explore, animal care, and more. Early access is expected to last a year to a year-and-a-half, depending on their progress through the roadmap.

You can learn more about Farlands on the Steam Store page:

Colonial farming game Echoes of the Plum Grove had a content update this week, adding more pet options for the farm and custom tourists in Honeywood. The new content also brings in economic adjustments, such as reducing the price of several grains, the choice to disable snow visual effects, checkmarks to indicate when an item has been obtained for tracking achievements, and Steam Deck verification.

The animal farm now sells tortie and siamese cats; dachshund, samoyed, and shiba inu dogs; and three types of pet birds. You can still only own one pet on the farm space.

The tourists that visit from the boat or move into Honeywood can now be custom-made characters designed by Kickstarter backers. There may be some unique names and clothing combinations, potentially lightening up the distress that comes with living during the game's historical period.

Rainy Games has released another patch for Sunny Side, the rural Japan themed farming game. This latest release changes several things, such as that only horses can now use the horse bed and the beginnings of an inventory management system. I do enjoy a good inventory sort option.

Until next time!
