Iris' Florist

You can buy flower seeds from Iris the Florist at her shop on the west side of Chestnut Town. Her shop is open Monday through Friday, from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm. Her daughter, April, stays at the outdoor shop with her, but April doesn't sell anything.

Flower Seeds

Iris will sell mutated flower seeds once you sell enough of the color variant to either Sam or via your Shipping Bin. Iris doesn't buy anything directly from you. To unlock Tulip Seeds in her shop inventory, you will need to raise her friendship to at least 1 Music Note.

Flowers can grow in any season, but they will only mutate or become GREAT quality during their preferred season.

Fertilizer

There are several types of fertilizer that you will need to use to force certain crop seeds to mutate. Not all of these fertilizers are utilized in that way, but since the same varieties were available in Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley, they are included in Seeds of Memories too.

In general, fertilizer will increase the health of your crops, which will then increase the chances of the crop mutating (if at all possible) or becoming a GREAT quality crop. You can randomly grow GREAT quality without the use of fertilizer if the crop is growing in its preferred season.

Iris sells normal and Super versions of some fertilizers. I have used both types and found there really is no noticeable difference between the two; they both mutate crops, and the super variety doesn't mutate crops in higher numbers than the normal variety.
