North American Localization Info | Posted at 07:20 PM 28 May 2014
Soooo.... yyyeeeaaa...
The official announcement for the English localized version of Connect to a New World was released today, but it is not what most of us were expecting. Instead of calling the game "Harvest Moon: (whatever subtitle goes here)", the game has been renamed to Story of Seasons without any reference to Harvest Moon at all and without a subtitle. The other key point is that the announcement didn't come from Natsume, but from XSeed Games.

XSeed plans to release the North American version of New World later this Winter, and will have the game's debut at this year's E3, due to take place June 10 through June 12.
I know this isn't what a lot of people were expecting, but that's what it is. XSeed will be localizing 牧場物語 つながる新天地 and not Natsume. Some are happy, some are confused, but I think everyone is surprised at this very unexpected announcement.
After I arrived home from work today, I took a look at some of the English screen shots that were released with the XSeed announcement.

Two of the screen shots are of dialog with Elise, which confirms her English name to actually be "Elise", and Fritz (who is "Fritz", yay). The problem I have with this, is that this scene does not occur in the Japanese version of the game. Elise is not the one who explains your house to you: it is Veronica and Edda. Edda is the one who takes you through your first week of the game, showing you how to water and harvest crops, care for animals, etc.

I have no idea if these are simply screen shots for promotional reasons or if theses are actually a part of the localized version of game. Perhaps XSeed has cut out a very important character from the game (Edda), or it may be as simple they need to work on making more convincing screen shots of actual gameplay footage and not fake scenes that players won't actually experience. Something smells fishy with their screen shots, and it isn't because of my over-ripe Turnips ;)
I guess the only thing we can do for now is wait for more information.
Thursday Morning Edit - Yawn! Now that I'm awake again, I've been notified that the weird screen shots are from the English demo of the game. I appologize if anyone became confused; although I didn't expect to be attacked by XSeed fans :D haha! Ruthless bunch they are! Must be from all that Rune Factory sword fighting...
