The local post office in North Westown is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 15:00. Ethan runs the front desk of the Postino, while Wayne wanders from town-to-town making deliveries for the service. When you first start living at the old farm outside of town, the post office won't be open for deliveries. Come back around Fall 5 of your first year and you'll be able to talk to Ethan and mail a letter. Sending letters earns you a little bit of friendship boost. You can send a villager one letter and can send another once you've received a response in your farm mailbox in the morning.

When drafting a letter to send, you will select the Addressee villager, the Stationary style, and the Contents of the message:

• The Addressee will be a villager that you've met or one of your family members (Marlena, Lynn, or Daryl). You can't send a letter to your own child, Dessie, Inari, Michelle, Witchie, or Woofio.
• The Stationary you select will determine the friendship amount you'll earn. Villagers all like letters, but you can earn a little bit more friendship if you select a paper style that they prefer. You don't get to see what the stationary looks like.
• The Content is a pre-scripted message that you'll attach to your letter, either a Letter Home, Send a Present, or Send a Birthday Greeting.
  • The Letter Home option is selectable if you are sending a letter to Marlena, Lynn, or Daryl. This menu choice will open up several message options based on your status in the game. You can select a happy message to send to your family (such as "Life is great right now!") or an event-based message like your child was born. If you have less than 20,000 G when drafting your letter, a special life-is-tough content message is available to select. Depending on who you select as the Addressee, in return you'll receive a random amount of pity money. Daryl can send between 4000 and 8000 G, mom Marlena can send between 2000 and 4000 G, and Lynn can send 1000 to 2000 G.
  • When selecting the Send a Present option, you'll be prompted to select an item from your bag to attach to the letter. This can be a wrapped or unwrapped gift. Even if you already gave a gift to your recipient that day, you can send another gift via the postal service.
  • The Send a Birthday Greeting content message is only available if you are sending a letter on the date of the Addressee villager's birthday. On any other day the option is not selectable. You can't attach a gift when sending a birthday message.

Each letter you send will cost a delivery fee. The base fee for a villager is 100 G and for your three family members it is 500 G. The fee then increases depending on the pattern of stationary you select, from 0 G (Simple) to 800 G (Elegant). Once you finish drafting the letter, simply select Confirm at the bottom of the Letter Prep screen.

Letters to local villagers will be delivered the same day you send the letter. You'll receive a response in your farm mailbox the next day. Letters mailed to Daryl, Lynn, and Marlena will take a few days to reach their destination, but eventually you will receive a response. You can't send another letter to one of your family members until you've received a response to your earlier letter.

Friendship Bonus

There is a normal bonus friendship you'll get for sending letters and a higher bonus if you send the letter using a villager's preferred stationary pattern. The Simple stationary is available when you start sending letters, with new styles of stationary appearing as you complete their requirements to unlock them.

• Simple style: 0 G. +15 FP (regular) or +30 FP (preferred). Available from the beginning.
• Stylish style: 300 G. +50 FP (regular) or +80 FP (preferred). Year 2 or later. For the Western Pattern, you need to have Westown at Town Link Rank D or higher, Eastern Pattern is Tsuyukusa Town Link Rank D or higher, and Tropical Pattern is Lulukoko is Town Link Rank D or higher.
• Unique style: 400 G. +100 FP (regular) or +130 FP (preferred). Year 2 or later. For the Western Pattern, you need to have Westown at Town Link Rank C or higher, Eastern Pattern is Tsuyukusa Town Link Rank C or higher, and Tropical Pattern is Lulukoko is Town Link Rank C or higher.
• Cool style: 600 G. +200 (regular) FP or +250 FP (preferred). Year 2 or later and all three towns are Town Link Rank D or higher.
• Elegant style: 800 G. +300 FP (regular) or +400 FP (preferred). Year 2 or later an all three towns are Town Link Rank C or higher.

Ideally, you'll want to send your letters using the Elegant Style paper for the greatest increase in friendship points with the Addressee.

Stationary Preferences

Listed below are the preferred stationary styles for the villagers that will earn a higher FP bonus when sending your letter to them. Selecting a different stationary style will still earn friendship points, though not as much as the villager's preferred style.
