Your Child

Once you have completed the requirements for marriage and your spouse moves into your farm house, you can expand your family (and put a third shirt on your outside closeline) by having a child with your life partner.

You can only have one child in this game. Its appearance is based on the hair, skin, and eye color of your spouse. For example, Wayne's child has light skin, blond hair, and blue eyes. Siluka's child has dark skin, purple hair, and purple eyes. Inari's child is not available until players purchase the DLC bonus pack, as the Tsuyukusa guardian cannot have a child in the base version of the game.

To trigger the pregnancy event you need to have a King-Sized Bed in your house. You will need to upgrade your house to the "Large" (level 3) size before the bed is for sale at Ludus' jack-of-all-trades shop for 30 Lumber, 15 White Cloth, 15 Blue Cloth, 10 Wool+, 30 Blue Flax Thread, and 10,000 G. You can buy the cloth in Westown if needed, but you must raise your own sheep to get Wool+ as well as grow Flax to convert into Blue Flax Thread. Flax Seeds are for sale at the 99 G and Up shop in Tsuyukusa once Tsuyukusa is Town Link Rank B or higher, or you have shipped at least 100 Cotton. Ludus doesn't offer different styles of the King-Sized Bed, but it will conform to whatever style you have for the interior of your house.

Next, you need to see the candidate's post-marriage event. At least 31 days from the wedding there is a special couple's event that you can see with your new spouse, except for with Woofio and Stephanie. This event won't trigger if it is yours or your spouse's birthday. You need to have a red flower color as well. The event locations are:

Woofio and Stephanie do not have the post-marriage events. You need to own the DLC for Inari's event.

After seeing the couple's event AND owning the King-Sized Bed, the next morning the female half of the partnership will feel ill. Dr. Ford will be brought to the farm house, where he will diagnose that a pregnancy has started. The pregnancy will last 45 days and will not change anyone's daily schedule or stamina levels.

Those who purchased the DLC to unlock Inari's child will have an event with Inari where the deity will magically gift you a child without the 45-day pregnancy time.

The birthing event will occur in the morning after 45 days have gone by; basically in the morning of day #46, counting the date of the pregnancy event. You and your spouse will travel to the clinic in Westown for the birth. The child's gender is randomly set at the birth event. If you are trying to achieve a specific gender, save your game the night before and reload after the event if the gender you receive isn't the one you wanted.

At the event your spouse will suggest some names for the child. You can select one of the three suggestions or you can give the child a name you prefer, up to 6 characters in length. The pregnancy event lasts 1 in-game hour. You'll return to your farm house after the event, ready to do your farm chores for the day.

The baby does not have much physical appearance at this point. It will live in the middle of your King Bed for 30 days. You cannot give it any gifts during this time, but you can talk to it. The child doesn't have a character portait that appears on the dialog box during its newborn stage.

Just like with your wedding ceremony, talk to the villagers within a week of its birthday and they'll congratulate you on the birth of your child. You'll also receive a random item gift if you have at least 3 hearts of friendship with the villager.

After 30 days you'll awake in the morning to find your child crawling around. The kid will be wearing a duck-style one piece outfit with a little duckie hat. The child's outfit will be the same regardless of who you chose to marry. You can now see the hair color and eye color influence of your spouse as well.

Even though your child is now crawling around and out of bed for most of the day, you still cannot give it any gifts. You can talk to it, but you can't pick it up off of the ground. It stays inside the house all day.

It will take another 45 days after the crawing event for the child to be full grown. Once it is full grown you can celebrate your child's birthday by walking into your farm house between 19:00 and 24:00.

There is also a family outing event after your kid has been full grown for at least 20 days. Walk into your farm house between 10:00 and 15:00 on a sunny day to have your spouse and kid ask if you want to go on a picnic together; you don't have the choice to tell them you don't want to go! You will earn +1000 FP with your spouse and +1000 FP with your child. This event will last 90 minutes.

You can also spend meal with your family. Stand by your table inside your farm house to see the "Dining Table" prompt, then press the A button. You can cook the meal or select your spouse to cook the meal instead. If you choose to cook, you can make a meal using a recipe that you already know or you can use an existing prepared meal from your bag. Eating a meal with your family will earn +100 FP with your kid and +100 FP with your spouse.

Meal time (with just you and your spouse, or with all of your family) is available from 6:00 to 9:00, 11:00 to 14:00, and 18:00 to 24:00. Meal time doesn't appear to be available if you are married to Woofio or Stephanie.

You may also see a Feeling Thankful event once your child has been full grown for at least 10 days; the weather is sunny; it isn't a festival day (i.e., Garden Grill and Tea-ful Reunion must be open); and you have a Furmiliar living with you.

Walk into your farm house between 6:00 and 10:00 to see your child wondering what they can do to thank you for your hard work. Your spouse will suggest cooking a meal might be a nice gesture, so your kid asks for inspriation from Brad and Marco in Westown, Ginjiro in Tsuyukusa, and finally Caolila in Lulukoko.

When you return home your child will be proud of what they made, though basically it is just three types of salad. You'll earn 1000 FP with your spouse and 1000 FP with your child.
