Flowery Flowers
Flowers are a nice and simple type of crop you can grow in your valley space. The main advantage to flowers over crops is that they have a much easier chance of mutating into different colors if the flower is growing in its preferred season. For crops, you need to factor in elevation, soil type, and so on, but with flowers, you just have to plant and water regularly in order to receive plant mutations. Not every type of flower can mutate into something new, so there are fewer varieties you need to concentrate on in order to unlock the mutated seeds.
Flowers will not mature if you plant them at level 4 (HE-16) or lower. The plant will sprout, but it will never mature. The stunted flowers will then wilt when the season changes.
You can buy the seeds from Iris the florest when she in front of your house on Wednesday and Thursdays. Iris will also buy your produced flowers from you at about 55% more than what Sam will pay, so it is to your advantage to hoard your flowers until Iris is available to sell to.
To unlock a mutated flower's seed at Iris' shop, you need to sell 50 of the mutated flower to Sam and/or Iris. You can sell them all to one of the shopkeepers or split the sales between them. Once you sell 50 of the mutated flower, check Iris' shop inventory to find the flower's seeds for sale. Either the normal version or the GREAT version will count towards unlocking shopkeeper seeds. Sam will not buy the Download Content flowers, Blue Mist and Moondrop. You will have to sell those directly to Iris.
Flowers will grow in any season, but flowers may grow into GREAT versions of itself if you plant the flower during its preferred season. The GREAT variety of the crop will sell for about twice as much as the normal flower's sell price.
Blossom the Harvest Sprite will help you achieve mutations and GREAT flowers. Talk to her when she is at the Harvest Goddess' Spring on Mondays through Fridays to ask her to care for your flower crops. If you're not growing any flowers, Blossom won't help you.
