Alpacas and Llamas
Alpacas and llamas are livestock animals that produce fur. Alpacas are skittish animals and will run away from you until their friendship reaches 1 heart. Simply because they are afraid of you doesn't mean you can neglect their care. You still have to talk and brush the alpaca to keep its stress low and raise its friendship.
- The white alpaca is available for 20,000 G from Cabin Country starting in spring of year 2.
- The brown alpaca unlocks in spring of year 3. You can buy this animal from Cabin Country for 25,000 G each. It produces different wool than the standard alpaca.
- The bouffant-styled llama is similar to the alpaca but produces different wool. You can buy llamas from Silk Country starting in fall of year 3. Each llama costs 25,000 G
When you become good friends with your alpaca or brown alpaca, it might do a hopping dance from time to time. It's really happy!
The alpaca and llama wool can be converted into cloth by using the Sewing Studio. The cloth can then be crafted into clothing outfits.
Collecting Wool
You will use the same Clippers that you use to shear the wool from your sheep in order to collect the fur of your alpaca and llama. White alpaca and brown alpaca will produce clippable wool every 5 days, and llama will produce its wool every 6 days.
The plain white Alpaca Wool can be converted into various colored cloth (red, blue, etc.) by using the Sewing Studio. When working with regular white Alpaca Wool, sometimes the color abbreviations can be a little confusing; Bl. Alpaca-Wool Cloth is the blue cloth and not the black cloth (Bk. Alpaca-Wl. Cloth). The Brown Alpaca Wool can only be turned into Amber Alpaca Yarn and then into Br. Alpaca-Wool Cloth (note the change from "amber" yarn to "brown" cloth). Llama Wool can only be changed into black, silver, or golden color.
You can increase the number of By-Products you receive from your alpaca and llama by feeding them Baa-Baa Treats. You can buy these treats from Cabin Country for 200 G each. You'll need to give (at most) 142 Baa-Baa Treats to raise a normal alpaca or brown alpaca to 5 By-Products, and 162 Baa-Baa Treats to raise a llama to 5 By-Products. The number of By-Products it gives will never decrease if you stop giving it treats.
To make your alpacas and llamas permanently produce plus quality goods (+) each animal must spend at least 100 in-game hours in the Safari. You also might obtain plus-quality goods from an alpaca or brown alpaca with a Cowardly personality once the animal reaches at least 7 friendship hearts. For a llama, it might randomly produce Llama Wool+ at 7 hearts of friendship if it has a Level-Headed personality.
Birth and Death
Impregnating an alpaca, brown alpaca, or llama can be done at any of the vendors at the Trade Depot. Just select "Ask about Animals" when talking with a vendor, then select "Breed animals."
Pregnancy will last 20 days. While the animal is pregnant it will be placed in the special pregnancy pen in the upper-right corner of the animal barn. You don't have to feed the animal or take it outside; you can't give it treats either. After 20 days the pregnant alpaca, brown alpaca, or llama will give birth to a smaller version of itself. The baby will take another 20 days to mature as long as it is fed every day.
These livestock will naturally pass away when they become too old. A normal, well-cared for alpaca or brown alpaca has a chance of passing away when it is 5 years old, and a llama can pass away beginning at 6 years old.
