Fungus Farming

Mushrooms are a type of crop you can grow on your farm that don't need to be planted onto a field or watered to make them grow. All you've to do is place a Mushroom Log somewhere on your outdoor farm space, sprinkle mushroom spores onto the log, and then just wait for the mushrooms to mature.

Mushroom Logs are for sale at Ludus' Farm Circle shop once either Lulukoko or Tsuyukusa have reached Town Link Rank C or higher. Each Mushroom Log requires you to bring Ludus 15 Small Lumber, 5 Maple Branch, and 1000 G. The Maple Branch you can pick up off the ground in Westown all year long.

After using your Fun Time Work Bench to place the log somewhere on your farm, sprinkle the log with a bag of spores. Spores can be purchased from the towns; you can't find wild mushrooms to convert into spore seeds via your Seed Maker (i.e., you can't grow Poison Mushrooms on your farm). The log will have a white coating on it that will turn into little 'shrooms within a few days. The logs will eventually sparkle when the mushrooms are ready to be harvested. A mushroom crop can be harvested three times before it requires the Mushroom Log to be re-spored.

While the mushrooms are growing, you can add fertilizer to increase the fungus' Star Rank. Mushrooms only have Color and Aroma crop qualities, so use Sparkly Fertilizer or Sugary Fertilizer on them; the game will prevent you from using Juicy Fertilizer, Uniform Fertilizer, or Propagating Fertilizer on your logs.

Besides fertilizer, there are several mushroom-specific Farm Circles that can influence the spores growing on the Mushroom Logs:

The trophy associated with your mushroom picking influences the number of mushrooms you collect at harvest (hence, the reason why you can't use Propagating Fertilizer). Once you reach Average Mushroom Hunter you'll start collecting 2 mushroom per harvest, and Master Mushroom Hunter will increase the harvest to 3 mushrooms.

While Truffle is a type of mushroom, it isn't grown on your farm. You can buy Truffle from the Bon Charme ingredient shop in Westown for 3000 G each. A pet with the Finding Misc. ability can also find Truffle if their pet skill level is 5 or higher.

Common Mushrooms are also for sale at the cooking ingredient shop, Bon Charme, in North Westown for 290 G each starting in Spring of year 2. Instead of trying to unlock the seeds, you could buy a Common Mushroom and then use the Seed Maker to convert it into Common Mushroom Spores.

Poison Mushroom is not a crop you can grow on your farm. It can be found, very rarely, by the door to Witchie's room in North Lulukoko on rainy days during Spring, Summer, or Fall. Since it so uncommon to find it in the wild, it is more effective to obtain Poison Mushroom by owning a farm pet with the Finding Misc ability. A Finding Misc pet can randomly locate Poison Mushroom for you even at skill level 1.
