Story Walkthrough

Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home consists of 10 chapters. Once the main story is completed, you may continue to play the game freely and complete end-game goals, such as filling in all the encyclopedia entries. Each chapter typically has a collection task relating to growing a specific crop on your farm. The goals of the later chapters are more challenging than those at the beginning of the game.

A major factor in the chapter progress is collecting Happiness. Starting in Chapter 3, this magical dust is awarded when you talk to villagers, complete villager requests, ship items through the shipping bin, and participate in festivals. The amount of Happiness collected that day will be added to a Happiness Jar when you go to bed for the night. Events that progress the story will trigger when the jar reaches certain thresholds, indicated by the jar flashing and a cheerful tone. The villagers will then give varying conversation dialog, or talking to a specific individual will progress the story.

Once the chapter's story has ended, the filled jar will be shelved on the back wall of the Happiness room. A new Happiness Jar will then be given at the start of the next chapter. There are a total of 7 Happiness Jars to fill. Any happy dust collected after a jar is full will not count towards the next jar.

The Happiness section of the Main Menu will show the number of filled bottles and the dust progress of the current jar.

Also starting at the end of Chapter 3 are stamina bonus hearts. You'll begin your Alba life experience with 3 hearts of stamina. The encouragement you receive for completing a chapter's task will award you +1 stamina heart, up to a maximum of 10 stamina hearts.
