Talk to Olivia, who curiously asks if you have any eye on a potential sweetheart. As you earn more Happiness dust, you'll learn more about the old Alba traditions for proposing marriage. It used to be that a jewel in the shape of a blue feather was given as a proposal item, but nobody uses something like that anymore. Another person will say it isn't a blue stone but an actual feather. Everyone remembers this tradition differently.
Not like it matters, since Doc Jr isn't a marriage candidate... again...
When you're about 75% of the way through this chapter's Happiness jar, you'll be prompted to talk to the Harvest Goddess. She sympathizes with your plight of not knowing what to do during this free-time break. The goddess offers to keep you company with some idle chit-chat. Is there a special someone in your life to gossip about? Legend has it that giving a feather from a Blue Bird to this special person will allow you to live happily ever after. She reveals that the Blue Bird happens to be a longtime friend, though she hasn't seen the bird in a while. They used to have tea together all the time! You suggest an offering to give the little fellow. HG asks you to bring her 4 3-star Chamomile, 4 3-star Watermelon, and 4 3-star Soybeans. You have access to all these seeds at Victoria's market. Take advantage of your field health and apply fertilizer if necessary.
Bring the requested materials to the goddess, who will call for the Blue Bird to visit. Only the goddess can talk to the bird, though. After a quick giggle, as the two of them remember old stories, she introduces you to the bird. The Blue Bird gives you a Blue Feather to thank you for the lovely gifts. After the bird leaves, the goddess suggests you keep that feather until you're ready to give it to your beloved.
Your next step in this chapter is to prepare for marriage. You cannot move onto Chapter 10 of the story if you choose to remain single. To continue, you will need to:
The available individuals to choose from have pink flower buds next to their names on the conversation dialog box. They will also be at the top of the list under the Main Menu > Friends list. Raising affection is as easy as giving the potential partners a gift, completing their villager tasks, and talking to them often. As the music notes on their conversation dialog boxes appear, you can trigger music note events by talking with them.
The music note events give you an insight into the marrige candidate's personality and troubles, with each event moving them towards resolve a problem with your assistance. There is one event per music note level. Talk to the candidate to start the event. Some events have answer options to choose based on the event's dialog, but there is no incorrect answer. Pick whichever one you like best.
If you have a marriage candidate at 5 music notes of friendship and you have seen their five music note events, you can give them a Token of Love to officially become a couple. Giving the token lets you move on the 6th and 7th music notes; without it, you're stuck at 5 notes. This object is crafted at Andy's shop by combining 2 Red Rose, 2 Glass, and 1 Sturdy Board Lumber. Sturdy Lumber is obtained by chopping down the pine trees around the Harvest Goddess spring using a Master Axe or Legendary Axe.
You can give every marriage candidate a Token of Love, but you can only trigger the token dialog prompt "once per day per character." The on-screen message is a little confusing. Basically, if you have a Token of Love in your inventory and talk to the candidate, you'll be prompted to either give them the token or not give them the token. Selecting "Yes" will open an are-you-sure confirmation dialog. If you choose "No" on that screen, then you have to wait until the next day to try giving that candidate a Token again.
You can give multiple candidates a Token of Love on a single day, as long as you have enough tokens in your inventory. Andy only sells seven Tokens of Love, one for each marriage candidate. The marriage candidates don't respond negatively to sharing you with multiple romantic partners.
Optionally, if you do NOT want to become romantically involved, you can give a Token of Friendship instead. This solidifies that you simply want to be best friends forever. To craft this token, combine 1 Sunflower, 2 Glass, and 1 Sturdy Board Lumber. Like with the romantic token, you can only craft seven friendship tokens.
You can only give one token to each marriage candidate, whether love or friendship.
After successfully giving a Token of Love, you can see one romantic date event. This event unlocks when there are 6 filled-in music notes.
The blue-roof house you first start out with is too small for two people. To get married you are expected to increase the size of your farm house. You must complete two remodels before you can propose marriage. Andy handles the house remodels.
The first house upgrade is available after you restore the Piemont restaurant during Chapter 4. This remodel requires 20 Palm Board Lumber, 20 Palm Square Lumber, 40 Material Stone, and 12,000 G. This remodel will expand the house into two rooms and change the roof color to orange.
The second house upgrade is avaialable after you complete the first remodel and you have opened the hot spring at the end of Chapter 8. This remodel requires 10 Sturdy Board Lumber, 10 Sturdy Square Lumber, 15 Platinum, and 40,000 G. The hardwood needed to craft Sturdy-quality lumber is from chopping the pine trees at the peak of Mount Alba. Platinum comes from the Savita Mine starting on floor 31. After completion, the house is divided into three walled rooms with a hallway, and the roof color changes to green.
Once the person you want to marry has 7 full music notes, you have seen the romantic 6-note event, and your house is the largest size, talk to them to propose marriage. The game questions whether you are really really sure you want to propose. If you get cold feet and choose the "No" option, you can propose to that person again the next day.
During the proposal, you'll learn that the person also has feelings for you; they simply were unsure whether you felt the same. Your proposal will then be accepted (it cannot be rejected). The two of you, as a couple, will then announce your intentions to the other villagers. Each candidate has a version of the announcement event. Some are small, like Jeanne's and Malika's. In contrast, others are a bit more complex, such as Abraham's temper tantrum after learning that his precious daughter is getting married.
Regardless of who you marry, the ceremony will be set for 9 days later.
The hair color you choose to have during the ceremony will be the hair color assigned to your inevitable child. You can change your hair color by interacting with the wardrobe inside your farm house. While you cannot select your eye color, your child will have eyes that are a shade of color between your eye color and your spouse's eye color.
The wedding ceremony will take the entire day. There will be a family gathering before the ceremony, the ceremony itself (along with a screen-fade kiss), and the game's ending credits. Your animals won't be fed and your crops won't be watered on your wedding day. Crops should be fine though - they'll still grow - but you will have two days of manure to clean off the animal barn floor.
The morning after the wedding, your new life partner will have moved into the farmhouse. You'll wake up together and eat breakfast together.
Now that you're married, head to Village Hall and talk with Justin/Christina. Alba is now flourishing thanks to you and everyone else in the village. There's still something missing, though. Your friend exclaims that we're missing a festival: THE SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME FUN TIME ALBA FESTIVAL, to be exact. Well, that isn't the official name, but you get the idea. Like before, they will research ideas at Village Hall while you lead the investigation in the fields.
