Chapter 7: Forgotten History

Return to Chapter 6

Talk to the villagers to learn their opinions on Alba's specialty. Perhaps it's the fruit from the orchard? Everyone has their ideas. Olivia considers that maybe it doesn't have to be a product. Maybe it could be a tourist attraction?

A day or so later, the Alba Times has an article asking for information about the mysterious ghosts of Haunted Pond. Seems like Jeanne is now investigating these weird spirits too. If you talk to her, Jeanne will tell you about an old Alba newspaper article she read. In years past, it was tradition in Alba to cook up a batch of Strawberry Jam and take it up the mountain. That sounds strange; what did they do with the jam? Jeanne finds it odd, but she enjoys learning about intriguing things.

You start hearing little stories about the legend of a goddess who lives on top of the mountain. Abraham says fishermen used to head up there on stormy days to ask for calm weather. Harriet has an idea to profit from the story by baking Goddess cookies or cakes to sell. Another rumor is the bounty of Alba is because of this ancient Harvest Goddess, who in older times would be gifted with offerings every day by the villagers. It's a long-forgotten tradition. In fact, the strawberry jam made specifically as an offering for this goddess used to be very famous.

Once the Happiness Bottle reaches about 80%, go talk to Justin/Christina to hear a summary about Alba's old tradition. The tale is that there was a Harvest Goddess and a bunch of fairies that supervised the crop harvests. As thanks, the villagers held a festival in her honour. It was a really long time ago though. I bet Fredrick might know something! After all, he is the oldest person in the village.

Go hunt down Fredrick and ask the old farmer about the Harvest Goddess. Ah, that is something he hasn't thought of in years! It is true that everyone used to show gratitute for the goddess back when he was a kid, but that all disappeared when folks got too old and the youth moved away. Nobody was around to remember the tradition. He does remember cleaning up the old spring at the top of the mountain with Tessa and thier son. That place is in shambles now. You might be able to get everyone working together to repair the shrine. Oh yea, and you will also need an offering: 5 3-star Strawberry Jam should work.

The recipe for the jam is at Hugo's Piemont for 800 G. Strawberry Seeds are at Victoria's general store for 65 G each. You'll need to grow 10 3-Star Strawberries in your field to process into 5 jars of Strawberry Jam (2 berries per jam). You can swap in other varieties of strawberries in the recipe if you have them (e.g., Angel Lantern), but the resulting jam needs to be 3 Stars.

To grow 3-star Strawberry, check the Conditioner Machine for the happiest field you have. Only plant the Strawberry seeds in that field; other crops maturing in the same field can deplete the field health before the Strawberry can be harvested, potentially reducing the chance of obtaining the required star quality. Use Fertilizer to boost the star quality of the growing plants. You want to fill the plant's star as much as you can within 6 days.

Strawberry will produce a harvest three times, with each production reducing the field's soil health. You can easily get 3-star with the first harvest, and may need to use more Fertilizer on the second, but it's tough to get 3-star berries by the third harvest.

After you finally grow enough 3-star Strawberries and make 5 Strawberry Jams, bring the jam to Fredrick. The farmer is glad that you brought the offering. As for the shrine clean-up, Jacques already recruited folks to handle that part. Seems just mentioning your name causes folks to jump in and help. The two of you head to the Haunted Pond, where the water is no longer full of weeds and logs. Fredrick is amazed, as he had forgotten how something so beautiful could be hidden away up here in the mountain. He even thanks you!

Fredrick asks that you leave the offering with him, as being here has brought back a lot of fond memories. He would like to stay here by himself for a bit.

The next morning, an article in the Alba Times covers the revival of the Harvest Goddess Spring. Head to Village Hall to talk to Justin/Christina. They had no idea such an amazing place was located in Alba! As neat as it is, they doubt it's what they need to make the town a famous place. It sure was nice to see everyone working together to clean up the pond, though! Justin/Christina relays a message from Fredrick: you're free to visit the pond and give thanks to the Harvest Goddess whenever you want.

Encouragement from your childhood friend will reward you with +1 stamina heart

Head up Alba Mountain to check out the town's spring. As you get close, you see... those little ghosts! And they talk! Ver, Autumnus, and Aestas introduces themselves as Harvest Sprites, keepers of the goddess. Now that your hard work has energized the town, they too have had their fairy powers restored. By their powers combined, it's time to awake the Harvest Goddess!

(Cue dramatic music)

Suddenly, a blue-haired woman appears from the spring. Dum-da-da-daa! The goddess tells you it has been decades since anyone from the village has visited her pond to give gratitude. Since you had brought her an offering, and all the others villigers have stopped by too, she's feeling absolutely wonderful! In fact, as a token of thanks, the Harvest Goddess wants to make the formerly Hunted Pond into a soothing hot spring.

You can talk to the other villagers about seeing the Harvest Goddess, but as always, they're skeptical. They're excited about the hot spring though! Maybe it is the attraction that will put Alba on the map as the hot-spot for tourists to visit.

Willis will be at your front door the next morning. He's impressed with your progress! As a reward, he has expanded your Repeated Actions area for sowing seeds, harvesting, and applying bags of fertilizer.

Talk to Justin/Christina at the Village Hall. They're exicted about the new symbol for Alba! They had the water tested, and it's perfectly fine to bath in. Now we just need to build a proper hot spring facility for the visitors. Justin/Christina can sense that their dream of restoring Alba has almost become a reality. While your friend is busy working with blueprints and paperwork, they ask you check with the others for their hot spring ideas.
