Klaus

This formal looking fellow uses flowers and scented oils to create perfumes. He doesn't have a shop where you can buy his creations, as he seems to prefer researching new scents rather than selling the perfumes for profit. He isn't just searching for scents that smell nice, but scents that invigorate or have other affects when used.

Klaus has lived in Oak Tree Town for a long time, and you'll meet him from the start of your farming adventure. His house is in the western side of town. Klaus does his scent research inside his house, so while he is working you won't be able to give him a gift. This will typically be Sundays through Thursdays from 8am to 10am, and again from 19:30 to 22:00. On Sundays and Wednesdays he'll be out of town between 11:30 and 18:00.

The easiest liked gifts to give Klaus are Tea Leaves, tea drinks, and juices such as Carrot Juice, Orange Juice, and Tomato Juice. You'd assume that he likes flowers, but he actually only like Blue Rose and Hydrangea. He does like flower bouquets though, but those require combining a variety of flowers using the Wrapping Bench inside your house.

Other types of liked-quality gifts for Klaus are winery-made fruit "juices" (the stuff you use to make wine), plain cheeses, gems (Amethyst, Peridot, Diamond, and so on), animal wool, dried golden crops, perfume, purple jewelry, Cabbage Rolls, Tomato Risotto, Macaroni & Cheese, and Stew.

  Klaus is happy that you like it. It is important to feel calm once in a while. Like when you savor a candy gift you received. He doesn't eat too much of those, although he'd like to see the affect on you when you receive a treat. Do you like coffee? Klaus invites you to have some coffee and treats with him.

• Choice 2: I feel invigorated

  Result: +800 FP with Klaus

  Klaus is glad, but he was going for a calming sensation and not something that had the opposite affect on you. It doesn't have the same affect on him. Next time he'll have a calming scent for you.

Klaus looks to be very busy at work when you walk in. He sees you and asks you to wait a moment.

  There's no need, as he'll be finished soon. Klaus invites you to go wait on the sofa for him. You leave and go sit to wait.

• Choice 2: Let me help

  Result: +500 FP with Klaus

  He is thankful, but this is his work to do. He asks you to wait for him on the sofa. You leave and go sit to wait.

Klaus finishes his work, and is sorry you had to wait. What is it that you wanted?

• Choice A: I just wanted to see you

  Result: +1500 FP with Klaus

  Klaus wonders why you want to see an old fool like him, as those words would be something you would say to someone you really loved. Klaus figure you don't understand, so explains that the dialog is something that would give a man the wrong idea and warns you that it is not something you just say to every man. As Klaus moves closer, he teases that some day you might be caught by a big bad wolf...

  Apparently you don't get the meaning of his warning, but Klaus laughs and apologizes. It was just a little bit of advice. Spending all day working makes him say things he typically wouldn't say. He's not worried though, as a more dubius fellow might lose all intrest in being michevious when faced with your innocence. He wants you to stop saying such things. If Klaus had some to your house to wait for you to finish chores, how would you interpet that?

  Well you're embarrassed now! Klaus warns you to pick your words more carefully in the future. He has to get back to work, and you run out of the house. Klaus can tell that you were embarrassed.

  This response choice has been changed in the EU version, and the entire dialog about choosing your words has been removed. Instead, he starts by admiring your youthful exuberance, as Klaus is used to being the lead. He continues by saying he finds your assertiveness to be refreshing, then move closer and says it might even be overwhelming. Klaus continues on and advises you to rein in the power you posses, as you are affecting his blood pressure. It is like he is a moth drawn to a flame or a fly caught in a spider's web. After you become embarrased, Klaus states that he's had enough excitement for a man of his age, and he has more work to do.

• Choice B: I just wanted to talk

  Result: +500 FP with Klaus

  He stopped working because you just wanted to talk with him? Is there something you want to confess that is bothering you? He laughs and says he was joking, as he doesn't mind small talk. A young fellow like himself doesn't have any interesting stories though, but that's okay with you. You decide to have coffee together, and Klaus comments on how this is the first time that the two of you have had to sit and converse with each other.

• Choice C: Just messing with you

  Result: -2000 FP with Klaus

  This annoys him; he purposely stopped working to see what you wanted. He has to continue with his work and asks that you leave.

• Choice 3: I'll come back later

  Result: -1000 FP with Klaus

  Mmmm? Klaus finishes his task and turns around to see that you're gone. He wonders what you wanted.

Klaus meets up with you along the path, and explains he was just on his way to your place to see if you wanted to go out. As the two of you head out, Klaus comments on how the weather makes him want to go horseback riding. He explains that it was a hobby from when he was a student, but he hasn't done it since moving back to Oak Tree Town. If he picks it up again, maybe you'd like to ride behind him along a nice, long trail ride.

  Result: +1000 FP with Klaus

  He's glad that you're interested. Although he can't guarantee he'll have a white horse, and you would be riding behind a fussy old man and not a prince, he promises to treat you like a princess for that day. Though, he admits that he tries to treat you like a princess every day. What man wouldn't want to pamper the person he cares about? Klaus then offers to escort his "m'lady" back home.

Klaus and Iris are having a nice conversation when you walk in. They don't notice you, but Mistel sees you standing there, and comments on how his sister and Klaus seem to be enjoying themselves. They finally come over to where you and Mistel are standing, but you're so upset that you run out of the shop. Klaus chases after you.

Mistel knows that his sister saw you walk in and wonders why she didn't acknowledge your entrance, but Iris explains that this is a good opportunity for you and Klaus to get closer. Mistel figures that if this little incident ruins your relationship, then it wasn't going to go anywhere anyway.

Back outside, you run until you are almost blind-sided by a moving cart. The vendor apologizes for not seeing you, and Klaus scolds you for not paying attention to where you were going. Now that you've stopped running, Klaus asks why you were running away.

• Choice 1: Say what's on your mind.

  Result: +3000 FP with Klaus

  You explain what you felt when you saw him and Iris inside the shop. Klaus says it doesn't matter who appears to be a better match for him; you're the one that he loves. If you had any doubts, would he have chased after you in desperation? In fact, it is he who wonders if you are too good for an old man like himself. There's nothing that can be done to shrink the age gap between the two of you, but he still wants to be with you.

  Klaus says if there is anything that becomes too much, the two of you should open up to each other and not hold it inside.

• Choice 2: Say nothing.
