Derek and June
Remember, you must first 1) get married to someone other than Derek/June, 2) seen their 6-Heart events, and 3) told them both to "Go for it!" when prompted for romance advice.
Rival Event 1
- By the steps near Lloyd's house that leads to the yellow windmill
- 9:00 am to 11:00 am
- Tuesday or Wednesday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
June walks past Lloyd's house, minding her own business, while Derek is running full-speed towards town. As he turns the corner, BAM - he and June collide! As they pick themselves up off the ground, Derek apologizes for the disaster. June coldly replies that it was no big deal and continues on her way.
Wait, are you sure you aren't hurt?! Derek assumes from her response that she must be angry with him. June tells him she's fine; she just isn't very good at talking to people. Derek is relieved that all is well and reminds June that she is talking with him right now. June realizes for a brief moment that Derek is correct, right as he takes off full-speed again.
Rival Event 2
- Walk into Cafe Madeleine
- 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm
- Tuesday
- Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, or Snowy weather
- It has been at least 7 days since Rival Event 1
Mina detects that there's something bothering Derek. He explains that he is trying to figure out how to talk to someone who isn't good at conversation. Mina chuckles and asks who the person is that caught Derek's romantic interest. He scoffs and tells her it isn't like that at all!
June enters the cafe and is surprised to learn that Derek works there. He asks about her usual order (black tea), but notes that they are out of the drink and will be getting more tomorrow. June states she'll return then and is surprised that Derek knows her order. Mina tells June that Derek is their most reliable employee. Besides, he wouldn't be much of a waiter if he didn't know his customers' orders. Ah, she sees; with that, June leaves the cafe.
Ugh, Derek is stumped. Mina finally picks up on what's going on and explains to him that there's nothing to worry about. He just needs to talk to June just like he did just now. Derek thinks she may have a point, though reminds her it still isn't like that!
Rival Event 3
- Near the clock tower in the plaza
- 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm
- Wednesday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- It has been at least 7 days since Rival Event 2
June walks through the plaza and notices Derek chatting with Sophie and Jules. She greets him, but the group doesn't notice her right away. Jules explains that the three of them were talking about funny and embarrassing stories from their childhood. June anxiously watches as the group continues with the conversation, as though she feels like an outsider. When Sophie asks her if there are any stories from her childhood, June quietly replies that she doesn't remember any. Then she quickly scurries away, telling them she has something else to do.
Sophie mentions how June appeared to be sad. Jules suggests that Derek go talk to her.
Rival Event 4
- By the waterfall
- 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Thursday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- It has been at least 7 days since Rival Event 3
June is decompressing by the waterfall when Derek walks up to greet her. June tells him to go away, but Derek insists on checking up on her after she fled from the group. June tells him it wasn't anything he did; seeing everyone trying to involve her in the conversation, when she couldn't even muster the words to join in, made June feel ashamed. It's best for Derek if he spends time with people who are more fun than she is. June assumes he doesn't see how much of a hurdle it is for her to talk to people.
Derek replies that June is just fine the way she is right now with him. In fact, he likes how calm and serious she is, even when he says something silly. Derek realizes he may have just admitted his true feelings to June. She turns around and tells him he's being stupid. Derek wonders if she's mad at him again, but June replies that she isn't. Does this mean she likes him too? June responds with a simple "Sure," which sends Derek into cheers. June then scolds him for being loud.
