Recyclables and Treasure

Screen Shot

Besides fish, you can catch various junk items from the waterways around Zephyr Town. Commonly having a low sale value, there are some that are worth some money, especially when just starting out on the farm. The in-game Encyclopedia, located in the farmhouse bookshelf, will keep track of the unique recyclables and treasure caught while fishing.

When reeling in a bite while fishing, the alert icon that appears can reveal that an uncommon recyclable or treasure has been hooked. An alert icon that has iridescent diamonds will indicate when there's something special on the line. Lower-end recyclables (for example, Empty Bottle or Old Left Boot) will have the standard exclamation point alert bubble.

So, what do you do with these items? The three treasure category items do have a purpose:

Once you have the minimum number required for crafting, you can sell the excess treasures.

As for the recyclables: keep them in storage, as they are used to obtain rare items from the Treasureland stall at the bazaar. Charles' shop unlocks after you reach Rank 4 (City Bazaar), with his rarest item becoming available when you reach Rank 6 (National Bazaar). Even after you collect all his rare goods, you can exchange 20 recyclables for a Pink Diamond at his shop or sell him the colored bottles for 7777 G each.

Fish Bones are not a recyclable. In this game, Fish Bones are in their own category. This item is used for crafting Guardian Fish Bait at the Blue Windmill with an attached Purple Wunderstone. Unfortunately, Charles does not exchange Fish Bones for goodies at his bazaar stall.

Medals caught while fishing can be used at the Prize Palooza bazaar stall, though you can acquire medals in other ways. As of the 1.2.0 update to the game (Nov 2025), recyclables can also be found in dirt piles that appear the next day after stormy weather (e.g., a hurricane or blizzard).

Treasure, Fish Bones, and Recyclables do not have a star rank.

Using fish bait will attract fish, not recyclables or treasure. If you're trying to catch an Ancient Fish Fossil, colored bottle, and so on, ensure that you do not hve any fish bait attached to your fishing rod.
