Jules is a right-and-proper, colonial-style private tutor who works in the city three days a week. On Fridays, he reserves teach time for Zephyr Town's children, Laurie and Sylvia. He is gentle, patient, and generally well-liked by everyone, both adult and little kids.

As his parents passed away long ago, Jules spent years caring for his little brother, Derek. Which is probably why Jules is such a calm fellow, as Derek still has a troublemaking streak.

In the original Nintendo DS game, this character's English name was Ivan.

You walk inside to find Jules reading. Gazing around, you notice the large quantities of books stored along the wall. Jules asks if there are any books you might be interested in. His father built this impressive collection of literature, which Jules loves to read. On the other hand, his little brother has zero interest in books, despite Jules's attempts at involving Derek in the stories. Are you an avid reader?

Option 1: I read now and then!

Wonderful! Jules is glad to have another friend to chat about books. He even has a book he'd like to recommend, but warns not to read it before bed; from his experience, the book is so good that he didn't sleep that night.

Option 2: Not so much...

Jules is clearly disappointed. You're much like his brother. But if you do find a book that sparks your curiosity, please let him know. Jules offers to summarize the contents of any book you may not want to read.

Jules would love to hear how your interpretations of stories differ from his own. There will be plenty for the two of you to discuss!

Jules asks that you bring him something to help him stay awake; he stayed up too late reading a good book and now is feeling exhausted. He asks that you bring him 1 Herb Salad and 1 Herb Soup, any star rank.

You have both of these recipes in your kitchen. Each meal requires 2 herbs (e.g., Chamomile, Mint, Lavender, etc.). Bring Jules the cooked meals to receive 1 Cherry Seedling.

Jules is reading a book when you stop by for a chat. He explains that he picked up a new book on his way home that is really popular in the city. The novel is about a shipwreck that lands the protagonist on an abandoned island, where they end up becoming a farmer. Jules hopes his explanation, minus any spoilers, makes the story seem somewhat interesting.

Option 1: I'm super interested!

That's great to hear! Jules was worried that he may have said too much. You seemed very interested in his explanation, and Jules was worried that he might have gotten carried away.

Option 2: I don't really get it...

Jules apologizes. His overly worded explanation must not have been very good.

Anyhow, he needs to get home and start dinner. Ever since their parents died, Jules has been responsible for the housework, including cooking dinner for him and Derek. Ah, he has said too much again! Jules leaves for home.

After he's out of sight, Derek pops up from behind. He noticed you chatting with his big brother. Usually, Jules doesn't chit-chat with anyone! Derek wishes Jules would think of his own well-being instead of others. He asks that you keep trying to talk to Jules. It could help him to relax and have fun!

Lost Momento

Jules has lost a bag that contained an important keepsake. Could you help him locate the bag? He believes it may have been dropped by the fountain near the Sunnywood Hotel. He is a bit off with his estimate; the lost bag is behind Gabriel's house and not near the fountain. Return the item to Jules to receive 9 Marigold Seeds (3-Star).

You walked right into the middle of a heated exchange between Jules and Derek! While Jules insists that Derek should leave all the housework to him, Derek counter-argues that he is capable of handling basic household chores. Derek is tired of being parented by Jules! The older brother backs off, apologizes, and heads to his room.

Derek notices you watched the whole scene. He explains that he wants Jules to recognize that he doesn't need to rely on him for chores like when he was a kid. Derek wants Jules to start taking care of himself instead of always worrying about his little brother. This time, Derek may have taken it too far. He asks that you check on Jules.

Jules also apologizes to you for the uncomfortable situation you just witnessed. He recognizes that he can be overbearing, but he doesn't know how to approach the issue.

Option 1: You've both come a long way.

The fact that Derek is concerned about him is proof that Derek has grown up a lot. Jules had thought he did a disservice to his brother all these years, but that's not the case. Derek is now a fine adult, and it is about time Jules treated him as such.

Option 2: You're being overprotective.

You're right. Jules needs to reevaluate things.

Jules hopes Derek isn't still angry with him. If anyone has growing up to do, it is the big brother. Jules thanks you for listing. He feels better having you around. Seems as though you're always there when he needs you.

Jules has been thinking about what Derek said - about taking care of himself for a change. He wants to try something different, other than reading. He heard that sometimes crops will grow into strange shapes, and who better to ask than a farmer! Jules wants you to bring him 1 rare crop of any star rank.

Rare crops appear as you grow normal crops on your farm. Most crop families (minus grains and tea) have a rare variety, gold variety, or a giant variety. Jules wants a rare variety. This limits you to Asparagus, Potato, Onion, Radish, Watermelon, Melon, Cauliflower, Carrot, Spinach, Chili Pepper, Green Onion, Burdock, Daikon Radish, Cucumber, Corn, Pineapple, Eggplant, Red Bell Pepper, Green Bell Pepper, Broccoli, Orange, Cherry, Lemon, Mango, Red Grape, Green Grape, and Blueberry.

These rare crops appear when the plant matures. Generally, the better star quality of the plant, the greater the chance of obtaining a rare crop at harvest. Apply fertilizer to the plant while it grows for an increased chance of rare croppage. From what I've seen, Radish and Onion are easier to get rare crops with.

Once completed, bring the rare crop back to Jules to receive the Peacoat (Brown) clothing outfit. The other colors for this outfit unlock at Karina's Ailes D'ange once the bazaar reaches Rank 5 (Regional).

 

6-Heart Event

You pass by Jules in the plaza, with his face buried in a book as usual. He looks up from the book and mentions he's on his way to pick up the next volume in a series he's been reading. Jules summarizes the story's plot for you, just like he did earlier.

Soon, he realizes he's rambling again and apologizes. Jules needs to get back home, but before he has a chance to do anything, Derek interjects into the conversation! Did Jules forget that Derek is in charge of cooking tonight? Oh yea, Jules forgot he didn't need to go home to handle that responsibility. Derek tells his brother to take his time coming home, grins at both of you, and then heads towards his house.

Jules explains that they decided to split up the household chores. Derek is a better cook than he is! Jules has been so used to being a guardian that this change makes him feel like they can live simply as brothers again. He has even had time to look at other enjoyable activities. Jules has spent a lot of time talking with you lately, and he's grown to enjoy conversation. How do you feel about him?

Option 1: I've fallen in love with you.

Jules blushes and admits he feels the same toward you. Meeting you was like starting a new chapter in his life, and he looks forward to seeing where this story goes.

Option 2: You're a great friend.

He's so glad to have met you, as you are one of the dearest friends Jules has ever had.

The next day, you'll receive Jules' Elegant Fountain Pen in the mail, which can be displayed on the Mementos Shelf inside the farmhous.

It's up to you whether you want to be an official pair or just best buddies. There is no penalty for telling every marriage candidate that you love them; it merely changes the day-to-day dialog to feel more affectionate compared to being great friends. The candidate's character description in the Main Menu will note they are either "your newfound love" or "your trusted friend." You can continue to raise their affection to the maximum 10 hearts and propose marriage whether friends or lovers.

A Selfish Request

Jules has heard rumors that your cooking skills are magnificent. He would like to taste this for himself and asks that you bring him 1 4-Star Salad. An easy option would be Herb Salad if you had been working to raise the Star Rank of forageable goods with Ivy the Nature Sprite. Two picked-up-off-the-ground 4-Star herbs can be used to make a 4-Star Herb Salad. Bring the salad back to Jules to receive the Pasta Salad recipe.

 

Marriage Proposal

A Blue Feather! Jules responds that he will indeed marry you, but first, he wants to share the news with Derek.

Derek is happy that you and Jules are an official couple. He thanks Jules for taking care of him since their parents passed away. Jules responds that without Derek, he wouldn't have made it this far in life, and how proud he is of having Derek as his brother.

At the scenic overlook in the Mountains, Jules admits that this doesn't feel real to him. Perhaps you can pinch his cheek to prove how real this is? You give his cheek a good squeeze. Ouch! Yep, this is definitely not a dream! Jules feels like the luckiest man in the world.

The marriage proposal event will last all day, ending at 7:00 pm in front of your house.
