Town Villagers
While there are a total of 28 named characters living full-time in Zephyr Town, they are divided into two groups: the 12 young adult marriage candidates and 16 other villagers of varying ages. Raising friendship with the normy folks will unlock various benefits, such as new cooking recipes and decor for your bazaar booth. Some marriage candidates also require a minimum friendship level with other villagers, so generally you can't just ignore these regular townsfolks if you want to succeed in Grand Bazaar.
Each villager has a total of 10 friendship hearts, which you can see in the Resident Info section of the main menu. To increase your relationships with the villagers, talk to them often, give them gifts, and participate in festivals. While there isn't a way to throw garbage on the ground or allow a farm animal to die of sickness, which can negatively impact villager friendship in other Story of Seasons games, in this game, the only way to lose friendship is to give gifts the villager wouldn't appreciate.
A villager's friendship level will lock its progress once you reach 2 full hearts, 4 full hearts, 6 full hearts, and 8 full hearts. To continue raising your relationship, the villager will give you a chore to complete. Clearing this task will reward you with something special (and sometimes not so special) as well as remove the friendship lock. The only villager where this isn't the standard is Isaac, as he requires help with repairing the windmills, which is associated with the bazaar's rank and not his friendship hearts.
Once you reach full 10 hearts, you'll receive a Rosette for the Mementos shelf inside the farm house. These are found in the Resident Gifts section of the shelf. While they aren't as fancy as the mementos given by the marriage candidates, the Forget-Me-Not achievement on Steam requires players to collect these mementos.
(Note: The last memento in the Resident Gifts is the Flower Crown gifted by your full-grown child.)

The Resident Info section also list other non-villager characters, such as the contest judges, the Nature Sprites, the bazaar merchants from older games in the series, and Miguel's two brothers. There is no way to raise friendship with these heartless characters. The random, nameless characters who walk around town also do not have friendship levels.
