Arata
Arata has traveled to Zephyr Town not for the bazaar, but for the natural environment. Initially, he came to meet up in town with an old friend. With the friend running late, Arata decides to stay in town to wait for their arrival. He is dedicated to his martial arts training and hopes that Zephyr Town's wilderness can challenge his craft.
Arata will unlock in your game after your bazaar reaches Rank 2 (Village Bazaar), which will most likely be around Spring 9 of your first year. Arata tags along with Diana and Harold on their way to Zephyr Town by carrying their luggage along their journey.
Once your bazaar reaches Rank 4 (City Bazaar), Arata is forced to move to the Sunnywood Hotel for residency.

- 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Not Saturday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- Your bazaar is rank 2 (Village Bazaar) or greater
You see the martial artist living in the mountain area. Arata explains that he's intentionally living in the woods as part of his training. He has spent his entire life practicing martial arts, and living in the city wears down his instincts.
Arata remembers how you run a farm. That has to be a great workout! He invites you to do some training with him.
Option 1: Sounds fun!
Your enthusiasm has got him pumped up! Arata is pleased that you're open to trying anything.
Option 2: I'll pass.
You sure? Arata is a bit bummed out by your response.
He explains that all this training is to make him stronger. And before you ask, he needs to become stronger because... um.. gosh, that's a difficult question to answer. Training seems like something he is supposed to do. He ponders for a moment and then gives up; he'll figure it out someday!
1-Heart Unlock Request
Teach a Man to Fish
Arata is craving a nice meal of fish to help him train, but admits he is terrible at cathing them protien morsals. They're too slippery to catch bare handed! Arata asks that you use your fishing rod to catch things. You don't have to bring him the fish you catch; simply catch 10 fish. Once completed, return to Arata to receive 10 Medium Fish Bait.
2-Heart Event

- You have completed the Teach a Man to Fish request
Arata is working on mastering a technique, though he keeps struggling with getting the move right. Sounds like he needs a break to help clear his head. Since you're here, why don't you hang out for a bit?
The martial artists had wanted to chat with you for a while. There's a lot he doesn't know about you! Arata asks why you wanted to become a farmer.
Option 1: Good question...
Even if you're not sure, Arata admits that you're doing a great job so far. Maybe you have a natural knack for farming.
Option 2: Just wanted to give it a shot!
Ah, interesting. Arata feels that it takes a lot of guts to take on such a challenging job.
Arata had assumed that you were taking over the family farm business. In his case, his dad and grand-dad are also martial artists, so Arata naturally fell into the same rhythm. Don't take it the wrong way, though; he loves training! He then realizes that getting into martial arts just kinda... happened. Then there's the deeper question - Why does he need to become stronger?
Arata thinks for a while and is soon interrupted by a growl. Not an animal, but his stomach. He's starving! Ok, break time is over! Arata first needs to eat before he returns to training.
3-Heart Unlock Request
Howling Hunger
Arata is looking for food again. This time he wants something using the ingredients from your farm. He wants 3 1-Star Poached Egg. You can buy this dish from Cafe Madeleine for 421 G and eat it to learn the recipe. Making the dish requires 1 Egg (regular or Silkie) and 1 Soy Sauce. You can get Soy Sauce from Felix's stall during the bazaar or make it using the red windmill by processing 1 Soybean into Soy Sauce.
Bring the cooked meals to Arata to receive a Large Fish Pool decor for your bazaar stall.
4-Heart Event
- By the Sunnywood Hotel
- 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Monday, Thursday, or Friday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- Samir has 2 hearts or more
- You have seen the Arata's Accommodations scene
You walk past the hotel on the way to the bazaar grounds. Arata watches you pass by from under a tree and returns to lounging after you're out of sight.
Two visitors to Zephyr Town are in a heated argument in the middle of the walking path. One argues that milk needs to go into tea first, while the other counters that milk is the last thing to put into tea. They notice the nearby farmer and ask you for your opinion. What's the right answer?!
Option 1: Pour the milk in first.
Option 2: Pour the milk in last.
It doesn't matter which way you go; one of the tourists is going to be angry. Egads!
Arata finally moves from his nap spot to investigate the loud commotion. While the tourists are still squabbling, he steps in and tells them to simmer down. In the long run, it doesn't matter if the milk goes into the tea first or last, because the milk is delicious no matter what! The visitors realize Arata is correct and even consider trying the other's way of brewing tea. Arata points them in the direction of a shop where they can purchase more milk.
After they leave, Arata checks to see how you survived that high-pressure encounter. With more people around, there's bound to be some heads butting every so often. Arata says cooling down heated arguments is something he's accustomed to doing. Training isn't just about fighting, you know! There are more ways to show off one's strength. Arata admits that recently, he's been reflecting on why he is so enthusiastic about his training. It was simply something he did, but lately that hasn't been a reason he's happy with. Talking to you has helped Arata realize he has a better reason. Arata asks if you'd like to grab a snack with him.
5-Heart Unlock Request
The Big One
Arata wants to see a super-rare guardian fish. These are super-uncommon fish that require a Gold Fishing Rod or better (Orichalcum is preferred). When a guardian fish bites your line, a red fish bubble will appear, and the reel-in mini game will be faster. There are 8 guardian fish in the game, and any of those 8 will complete this task.
- Wels Catfish - spring, mountain area by the entrance bridge, any weather, orichalcum fishing rod required
- Catfish - spring or summer, town plaza, rainy/stormy weather, 6pm to 5am only
- Black Carp - spring or autumn, yellow windmill waterfall area or town plaza, any weather
- Grass Carp - summer or autumn, Gabriel's house area, any weather
- Northern Pike - autumn, gabriel's house area, any weather, orichalcum fishing rod required
- Shining Fish - autumn, Mountains area hilltop pond, sunny weather with 0 wind, 12pm to 5pm, orichalcum fishing rod required
- Peacock Bass - winter, Equestrian Park ponds, any weather, orichalcum fishing rod required
- Koi - winter, yellow windmill waterfall area, sunny or snowy only
(Note that the pond next to Felix's house is also categorized as yellow windmill)
Using Guardian Bait helps to reel up these rare fish. You can acquire this special fishing bait at Charles' Treasureland stall at the bazaar. His booth appears after you reach Rank 4 (City Bazaar) and help him with the materials he needs to set up shop. You can exchange 5 pieces of junk (Empty Can, Bottle, etc.) for 1 Guardian Bait.
Another tip to help reel in the big ones is to obtain the Reel Power Technique from Felix's bazaar stall for 30,000 G. When fishing, the skill will randomly trigger when reeling in a fish, reducing the number of hit icons needed to complete to successfully pull the fish up.
In exchange, Arata will give you a Mellow Beehive Lamp decor for your bazaar stall.
6-Heart Event
- Meet up with Arata in the mountain area
- 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Not Saturday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- Samir has 3 hearts or more
- You have completed The Big One request
Arata is working on mastering the technique he struggled with, and this time he has better success. He asks if you remember asking him why he wanted to become stronger. He didn't have an answer for a while until he realized he didn't know what strength actually was! You helped him find the answer in a roundabout way. Arata realized what strength was after he helped you out with the milk/tea situation from before. The look of relief on your face when he stepped in to mediate the situation was when he realized he wanted to become stronger to protect the people he cares for the most. That's what his training had been all about.
Well, now that's out of the way, Arata suggests joining him for a quick workout.
At the scenic lookout, Arata thanks you for helping him find a solution. While we're here, what do you think of you and him, anyway?
Option 1: I've fallen in love with you.
Arata looks relieved at your confirmation of his feelings towards you. If training means he gets to see the smile on your face, then it is worth every effort. He'll never lose his spirit as long as you stay close.
Option 2: You're a great friend.
Arata feels really lucky to have you as a friend. You're an awesome person! Arata expects you to continue living in Zephyr Town because he needs a good workout buddy.
It's up to you whether you want to be an official pair or just best buddies. There is no penalty for telling every marriage candidate that you love them; it merely changes the day-to-day dialog to feel more affectionate compared to being great friends. The candidate's character description in the Main Menu will note they are either "your newfound love" or "your trusted friend." You can continue to raise their affection to the maximum 10 hearts and propose marriage whether friends or lovers.
7-Heart Unlock Request
Gonna Need Rice!
Arata claims he finally caught a guardian fish and wants to cook it up. Alas, he needs a good bowl of rice to eath with his fish meal. Arata will ask you to bring him 1 5-Star Cooked Rice. While this meal is pretty easy to make using your kitchen (1 Rice), it is the 5-Star criteria that may be a little tricky. Work on fertilizing your rice crop, processing the grains back into seeds to replant and apply fertilizer again. Eventually, 5-Star Rice will be achieved. Bring the Cooked Rice to Arata to receive 10 Guardian Bait.
Marriage Proposal
- Give Arata a Blue Feather
- 6:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Not Saturday
- Sunny, Cloudy, or Snowy weather
- Samir has 4 hearts or more
- You own the double bed
Arata accepts your proposal, but wants to tell Samir before anyone else.
At the hotel, Samir formally congratulates you and Arata on the engagement, though his short praise baffles Arata, who had hoped his friend would be more enthusiastic. Samir admits he doesn't know the proper words to use, but in any case, he is happy for both Arata and you. Samir figured it was just a matter of time before the two of you became official. Let him know if you ever need anything.
At the scenic overlook in the Mountains, Arata is getting hyped with the thought of living together with you. He may need another mountain retreat to meditate over this experience. Nah, Arata says he is just kidding; he'll never leave your side.
The marriage proposal event will last all day, ending at 7:00 pm in front of your house.
