Ramon's Critters

Screen Shot

In the far back corner of the bazaar you'll find Ramon and his menagerie of animal friends. At every bazaar session, Ramon will bring four farm animals, four house pets, and one horse. The pets and horses appear in his inventory on the next bazaar session after you see his two free-animal events:

You'll eventually have a love/hate relationship with Ramon because the animal varieties he sells are random for each bazaar session. Other Grand Bazaar players estimate that Ramon's animal options are decided weeks in advance of each bazaar. Reloading the day before the bazaar won't change what Ramon sells on that Saturday. Unfortunately, you get what you get. Bazaar ranks will unlock new animals to add to his random pool.

Ramon's inventory is not influenced by the current in-game season.

Buy Animals

Ramon will sell baby farm animals and add adults into the mix once you purchase a baby version. The exception is with normal Chickens, as he will sell both chicks and adults at the beginning of the game.

Breed Animal

Since the farm animals come in a variety of colors and patterns, Ramon sells the standard base pattern and then up to three of the unique pattern varieties. The animal patterns he sells are just as random as the animal types.

Screen Shot

The rare patterns (e.g., hearts and stars) are only obtained by breeding, which is a service Ramon offers. You can ask Ramon to breed one animal per bazaar session. There needs to be space in the mother animal's barn for the baby animal to be born. If you need to make room in a barn to accommodate breeding, walk over to the Fuzzy Friends Shelter next to Ramon's Stall and permanently donate unwanted animals to Kat.

The prices charged for breeding are the same for buying a baby animal:

The advantage to breeding versus buying is the affection level of the baby animal. All animals sold by Ramon have 0 Friendship and 0 Happiness, whereas an animal born via breeding will retain half the Friendship and Happiness of their mom. If the mom had 8 Friendship hearts and 3 Happiness stars, the baby will have 4 Friendship and 1.5 Happiness.

Buy Pets

All the pets Ramon sells are adult size. The purpose of the cats and dogs are to herd your farm animals on good-weather days. Cats will manage the chickens, while dogs (of any size) take care of the larger livestock. You can have multiples of the same dog or cat, but there is a limit of 4 dogs and 4 cats.

Riding the horse around town is faster than walking, but I find that its awkward start and limited stamina is a transportation hinderance. Otherwise, the horse is used for the Summer Horse Derby and the Winter Horse Derby.

Since you can only have one horse, switching to a new horse color requires a visit to Fuzzy Friends Shelter to dump off your existing horse. Keep in mind that there is an in-game achievement in the challenging Marvels category to win the Gold Rank spring derby and Gold Rank winter derby using the same horse.
