Foraging

Besides the Harvest Wisps that give you free crop seeds and flower seeds, there are free edibles that can be found on the ground or on trees. Most wild items found on the ground will reappear in the spot you picked them in 4 days; Truffles take 10 days to reappear. Fruit trees will regrow their produce after 6 days. Though visibly there are multiple fruit on a tree, you only collect 1 fruit at harvest.

Wild items are not seasonal. You'll find the same goodies on the ground and in the trees all year long.

Some of these wild-foraged items can be used as ingredients in cooked recipes, but some are not used at all in cooking. The shellfish in Halo Halo are used for making Regular fish bait at the farm windmill. The foraged items can also be shipped for a little bit of money. Because they don't appear in the collection encyclopedia, you don't have to scour the world looking for every time of wild item.

The lumber used for completing requests and house/fence upgrades at Doc Jr's are found by chopping down wild trees. Simply walk up and interact with a tree to take out your axe automatically.

Ebony Lumber trees are found in the eastern dead-end along the path through the wilderness from Halo Halo to the Harvest Goddess Shrine. There will be 5 large boulders blocking the clearing where the dark-trunk trees can be found.

You will need to upgrade your axe to chop down wild trees; for example, you need to have a Silver Axe or greater to cut down a Peach Tree. The stronger your axe, the fewer swings it will take to collect lumber. While trees that you have planted will be chopped down permanently, the wild trees will grow back if you cut down both the tree and the leftover tree stump. The time in which a wild tree grows back will vary. Cedar trees take about 14 days to regrow, while fruit trees take much longer.
