Farm Tools
Your farm tools are what you need to grow crops and care for animals. In Anthos, there's no need to dig through your inventory to find the right tool for the task. The tool you need will automatically be used when interacting with your subject. For example, press the action button in a crop field to auto-equip the hoe and till the soil. The available actions will appear on-screen when you interact with something that requires a tool.
You can remodel tools to improve efficiency and conserve stamina. When ordering tool upgrades, the materials must be in your bag. The crafters can't build from what you have stored at your house. If you need to access your home's storage without going home, head to the nearest general store, flower shop, or animal shop. You'll find a small cabinet next to the shop's counter directly linked to your house storage.
There is no crafter shop available in Providence. The crafter located in the DLC town of Verne Village does not offer any tool upgrades.
Hand-Made and Old Tools
You'll receive these tools for free as you go through the beginning tutorial in Lectenbury.
- The Hand-Made Watering Can and Hand-Made Hoe come from Doc Jr as he explains how to care for crops.
- The Old Hammer and Old Pickaxe are also from Doc Jr after he requests your help with collecting materials for his Wall Wacker.
- The Old Axe is given to you by Neil so you can collect wood to repair the restaurant kitchen.
- The Old Fishing Rod is from Eugene after you deliver Neil's letter to Eugene and he returns to Lectenbury.
- The Brush, Milker, Clippers, Old Sickle, and Pitchfork are from Judy after you repair your farm's animal barn.
These tools are good for starting out but could be more efficient. The range on the watering can, hoe, and sickle is only 1 square, and it takes many hits to chop a tree or destroy a boulder.
Expert Tools
The next level of tools will appear in crafter shops after the walls surrounding their villages begin to fall. For example, remove the Lectenbury wall to unlock the expert-level hoe and watering can, remove the wall around Herbstburg to unlock the expert-level hammer and pickaxe, etc.
- Expert Hoe (Lectenbury): Hand-Made Hoe + 3 Square Lumber + 5 Silver + 2000 G
- Expert Watering Can (Lectenbury): Hand-Made Watering Can + 10 Square Lumber + 3 Gold + 2000 G
- Expert Hammer (Herbstburg): Old Hammer + 3 Square Lumber + 5 Silver + 2000 G
- Expert Pickaxe (Herbstburg): Old Pickaxe + 3 Square Lumber + 5 Silver + 2000 G
- Expert Axe (Zimagrad): Old Axe + 3 Square Lumber + 5 Silver + 2000 G
- Expert Sickle (Zimagrad): Old Sickle + 3 Square Lumber + 5 Silver + 2000 G
Silver Ore can be found in all the mines:
- Lectenbury Mine starting on floor 11, both ore nodes and in the ground;
- Lilikala Mine starting on floor 9 (ground) and 11 (nodes);
- Herbstburg South Mine starting on floor 11, nodes and ground;
- Zimagrad West Mine in the ground from floor 2 to 9, and nodes starting on floor 24;
- Providence North Mine in the ground as early as floor 3, and nodes around floor 15; and
- Volcano Mine starting on floor 1 in the ground, floor 11 as ore nodes.
The Gold Ore you need for the watering can upgrade is found in the Providence Mine as early as floor 8 for nodes and in the Volcano as early as floor 7 for both nodes and ground. The other mines have this ore at deeper levels: Lectenbury Mine starting on floor 21, Herbstburg around floor 17 or deeper (nodes/ground), and Zimagrad (floor 22 or lower for nodes, 31 for ground). Since Gold Ore was part of the Lectenbury story, using the dowsing ability while in any of the mines will show a small circle on the radar to pinpoint where Gold Ore can be found in the ground.
The Expert Fishing Rod is given to you during the Lilikala story. Kaimana will request that you bring him 3 Silver and 1 Gold to upgrade your Old Fishing Rod into something that can catch a Shining Pearl.
The Expert level hoe, watering can, and sickle have a larger tool range than their Old versions. Hold down the "[Action] Area" button (Y on Switch, Square on PlayStation) to increase the range of expert-level tools. These expert tools will extend to cover a 3 x 1 area.
A power increase is also given to the Expert Hammer, Expert Axe, and Expert Pickaxe. You can smash boulders, ore nodes, and trees in fewer swings. For example, chopping a tree with an Old Axe takes 10 swings (5 for the trunk and 5 for the stump). An Expert Axe takes 8 swings (4 and 4).
Master Tools
After you've made the Expert level tool, the Master tools will appear at each crafter shop once the town the shop is located in has a cultural level of 4 stars or greater. The materials required to upgrade to this tool level are more challenging to obtain.
- Master Hoe (Lectenbury): Expert Hoe + 5 Titanium + 3 Platinum + 5000 G
- Master Watering Can (Lectenbury): Expert Watering Can + 5 Titanium + 3 Platinum + 5000 G
- Master Fishing Rod (Lilikala): Expert Fishing Rod + 5 Square Lumber + 5 Platinum + 5000 G
- Master Hammer (Herbstburg): Expert Hammer + 5 Gold + 3 Titanium + 5000 G
- Master Pickaxe (Herbstburg): Expert Pickaxe + 5 Gold + 3 Titanium + 5000 G
- Master Axe (Zimagrad): Expert Axe + 5 Gold + 3 Titanium + 5000 G
- Master Sickle (Zimagrad): Expert Sickle + 5 Gold + 3 Titanium + 5000 G
Titanium Ore can be found in the Lectenbury Mine starting on floor 41 (this mine is only 50 floors deep). You can also find it in the Volcano Mine from floor 21 to 39, and then again starting on floor 61 and deeper. Titanium Ore is in the Lilikala Mine too, as early as floor 5 in the ground and floor 20 in ore nodes. You can sporadically find it in Herbstburg South Mine and Zimagrad West Mine, but I found it easiest to pull large quantities from the Lectenbury Mine.
Platinum Ore is in the Zimagrad West Mine; I've found it in the ground as early as floor 2. It also pops up in the Volcano Mine from floors 21 to 39.
You can find Platinum Ore outside of the mines when exploring the path that leads to the Volcano Summit. Fast-travel to the Volcano Summit warp statue or the Volcano Midslope warp statue and work your way down the path and into the volcano's core. You'll soon find a room with four small lava pools, three green-colored Platinum Ore nodes, and four white-colored Silver Ore nodes. While this is an easy location for the ore you seek, it does take about 13 hits using an Expert Hammer to collect 1 Platinum Ore. These nodes also take about a 7 days to regenerate.
There is another Platinum Ore node on the path leading to the Volcano Mine.
The area of effect for the master hoe, sickle, and watering can is a 3 by 3 square.
Legendary Tools
The Legendary Tool set will appear at the crafter shops after the town in which the crafter shop is located has unlocked the 5th cultural level star and you've completed the main storyline. Though you may not have crafted the Master tools yet, you still must do so to obtain the Legendary tools.
- Legendary Hoe (Lectenbury): Master Hoe + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Watering Can (Lectenbury): Master Watering Can + 3 Damascus Steel + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Fishing Rod (Lilikala): Master Fishing Rod + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Hammer (Herbstburg): Master Hammer + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Pickaxe (Herbstburg): Master Pickaxe + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Axe (Zimagrad): Master Axe + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
- Legendary Sickle (Zimagrad): Master Sickle + 2 High-Quality Square Lumber + 3 Orichalcum + 10,000 G
You can purchase the High-Quality Square Lumber from Lars' general store in Herbstburg for 2700 G each. Amanda's crafter shop in Herbstburg can also create this material for 270 G each when you bring her 1 Board Lumber, 2 Walnut, and a Lotus flower mutation: Lullaby, Nirvana, Samsara, Mountain Lotus, Snow Queen, or Lava Lotus. Optionally, you can buy the workbench recipe for High-Quality Square Lumber (and HQ Board Lumber) from Lars for 20,000 G if you have Herbstburg at 5 stars of cultural level.
Orichalcum Ore can be found rarely in the Providence North Mine, in the ground starting from around level 61. An easier location is the summit of the Volcano, where a Harvest Goddess warp statue is within line-of-sight of two Orichalcum Ore nodes. The downside is that these Orichalcum ore nodes only produce 1 ore and take 7 days to regenerate.
Damascus Steel Ore is in the Volcano Mine from floor 20 to floor 39 and again from 71 to 99. It is also from the ground within all floors of the Providence North Mine and in the Herbstburg South Mine starting from floor 11.
The legendary watering can, sickle, and hoe have a range of 5x4 .
HQ Animal Tools
Also unlocked after completing the game's story are upgrades to the four animal care tools. You'll find these in Doc Jr's inventory:
- High-Qulity Brush (Lectenbury): Brush + 10 High-Quality Lumber + 3 Valais Blacknose Sheep Wool + 12,000 G
- High-Quality Milker (Lectenbury): Milker + 5 Crystal + 5 Platinum + 12,000 G
- High-Qualtiy Clippers (Lectenbury): Clippers + 5 Titanium + 5 Damascus Steel + 12,000 G
- High-Quality Pitchfork (Lectenbury): Pitchfork + 10 High-Quality Lumber + 5 Orichalcum + 12,000 G
The advantage of upgrading the brush is earning more friendship when caring for an animal. With the milker, clippers, and pitchfork, you'll receive double their output per use (i.e., 2 wool, 2 milk, and 2 compost).
Harvest Goddess Tools
These extra tool upgrades are available if you have DLC #3: Tools & Interiors.
When you have at least one tool remodeled to Legendary level and DLC 3 installed, you'll receive a request to visit Doc Jr at his laboratory. The inventory explains he found the ultimate tool recipe left behind by his predecessor, the original Doc. He needs help with equipment upgrades before he can try to replicate the results of Doc's tool remodeling. Doc Jr asks that you bring him 1 Adamante Ore, 1 Raw Tourmaline Gemstone, and 1 Alexandrite Ore. Doc wants the raw materials, not the processed metal or gem.
- Nodes of light-blue Raw Adamantite Ore can appear from floor 15 to floor 39 in the Volcano mine. In the ground, you can find it from floors 25 to 39 and again after floor 61.
- Raw Tourmaline Gemstone is in the Volcano Mine ground from floor 41 to 59 or in the Providence North Mine ground starting around level 75. I've also found a Raw Tourmaline Gemstone node as early as floor 66 in Providence North Mine.
- The hardest may be the blueish-grey Raw Alexandrite Gemstone. I often find it in the ground on floor 41 in the Volcano Mine. I'm assuming it can be found from 41 to 59. Raw Alexandrite Ore can also be found in the ground in the Providence North Mine, starting around floor 45, though it's very uncommon.
Bring the materials to Doc Jr and he'll add ultimate upgrade options for all tools in his shop.
- Harvest Goddess Hoe (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Hoe + 5 Damascus Steel + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
- Harvest Goddess Watering Can (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Watering Can + 5 Titanium + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
- Harvest Goddess Axe (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Axe + 5 Platinum + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
- Harvest Goddess Hammer (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Hammer + 5 Damascus Steel + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
- Harvest Goddess Pickaxe (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Pickaxe + 5 Platinum + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
- Harvest Goddess Fishing Rod (Lectenbury): 1 Legendary Fishing Rod + 5 Titanium + 2 Adamantite + 15,000 G
The area covered by the HG hoe, watering can, and sickle is a 5x5 space. The axe can cut trees in one swing, the hammer breaks large boulders and nodes with one hit, and the fishing rod has a long reel bar for pulling in those tough-to-catch sparkly fish.
