This snowy area is the second trip you can take from Charles' Travel Agency. You can start visiting Snowland after you have taken a trip to the Southern Island and you have reached Summer of your first year or later. A trip to Snowland will cost you 30,000 G or 55,000 G if you take your spouse and/or child with you.
It takes 4 hours to travel to this area, so you need leave early in the day. Charlies won't take you to Snowland if it is after 5:00 pm. The pilot will take you back to town automatically at 9:00 pm.
Snowland has a few items you can forage off of the ground, but the land is cold so don't expect a lot. You can find more items if you hit the ice crystals with your hammer, similar to mining. In the ice crystals you can find Snowball, Glass Stone, Elli Leaves, Crystal, Moon Stone, Old Coin, and Shiny Coin. The ice crystals are the only way you can get Ice, which is needed to make a lot of dessert and drink cooking recipes such as Honey Shake and Fish Ice Cream. Yum!
Because the area is so cold, you won't find any bugs. You can find white Bears and white Weasels to befriend. You will also find a yeti in the northwest corner, who looks strangely similar to the lovable Mukumuku from the Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life series.
If you want to go fishing, you will need to get the Ice Drill to bore into the ice fishing spot. The plan for this tool is at Rebecca's blueprint shop for 800 G after you have visited Southern Island at least once and you've reached Summer 1 of your first year. You'll need 5 Rocks, 5 Silver, and 3 Rubies to make the Ice Drill. There looks to be two ice fishing spots, but only the one with the cracked ice can be drilled through.
There aren't any blueprints to find at the snowmen or igloos. They are just for decoration.
