Easy Good Gifts (+2000 FP): roses, Rose Perfume, Moondrop Flower, Fried Rice Ball
Fall 04 - Cow Festival
This festival becomes available after you own a cow and it is Fall 4 of your first year or later. Neil sells the normal Cow at his animal booth for 10,000 G each. There are two colors of cows; one with large black spots and one with small black spots. Starting in Fall of year 2, or after you have had 3 baby cow births on your farm, Neil will start selling Jersey cows for 11,500 G each. Jerseys are either all-brown or brown spotted.
On the day of the festival, talk to Dunhill at the festival grounds to select the cow you want to use and the class you want to enter. You can't enter a sick, pregnant, or non-adult cow. You will have a better chance of winning if:
- You enter a cow with a lot of Friendship Points (hearts)
- The cow has zero stress
- You brushed your cow that morning so it is clean
- You enter a Jersey Cow instead of a normal Cow (the spot color does not matter)
- The cow can produce more than 1 milk when milked
- (Advanced class only) The cow can produce "Great" quality products
For the Beginner and Intermediate class, you can win simply based on the number of Friendship Points the cow has. You'll win the Beginner class at 361 Friendship Points (3.5 hearts = 350 FP) and the Intermediate class at 9 hearts. But for the Advance class, you'll need 10 hearts and some of the factors listed above. The other judgement factors affect the lower classes as well; for example, if you enter a normal Cow into the Beginner class that only has 3 hearts but 0 stress and is clean, then you still have a chance of winning the festival.
For simply participating in the festival you will earn 1000 FP with the villagers. If your cow is judged to be the winner, you will earn another 1000 FP with the villagers and you could receive a standard festival prize.
Neil will give you the choice of taking the item / blueprint / cooking recipe prize or you can take a special cow. This is the old-fashion bubble-body cow style from previous Harvest Moon games. The nostalgic style cow is a normal Cow and produces regular milk. You can only get one of these cows per Cow Festival victory but the bovine prize will be available regardless if you win the Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced classes.

Fall 15 to Fall 18 - Fishing Tournament
This festival isn't unlockable until year 2. Kosaboro needs to be in Echo Village before you can participate in this festival, which requires you to be in Winter of year 1 or later and have Hana at 30,000 FP or more.
Starting at 12:00 pm on the 15th, talk to Dunhill at the festival grounds to enter the Fishing Tournament. Starting from that moment until you talk to him on the 18th, the number of fish you catch will be tallied together. The fish caught from Fish Traps or raised in your Fishing Shed do not count towards the tally for the fishing tournament. Only the fish caught at the fishing point docks go towards the festival victory. Shrimp, crabs, and clams also count as "fish" but not Cans, Fish Bones, Coins, and other junk items. For participating in the tournament, you'll earn +1000 FP with all of the villagers.
No trash items will be caught at the fishing spot in the mountain by the waterfall.
- 4th place: You caught 0 to 24 total fish
- 3rd place: You caught 25 to 50 total fish
- 2nd place: You caught 51 to 70 total fish
- 1st place: You caught 71 or more total fish
To help your chances of victory, before the tournament have Kosaboro make Good Fish Food for you. His fishing shop is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays inside of Hana's General Store. Bring Kosaboro 4 different crabs and shrimp and pay him 300 G to make one bag of Good Fish Food. Use this food when fishing to increase the bite rate of your fishing point by 20%. The food will remain in the water until you leave the area, so you can use it all day long and catch more fish than if you weren't using it. If you can't have him make Good Fish Food, you can use the store-bought Fish Food to increase your catching rate by 10%.
Don't confuse the Fish Food used for fishing with the Fish Food used to feed your Fishing Shed fish. Both bags of food cost 260 G at Kosaboro's shop, but the fishing food is in a plain, grey bag and the food you feed your fish is in a blue bag with a goldfish on it.
On the 18th, return to the festival area between noon and 3pm to hear the results of the tournament. You'll get another +1000 FP for attending the tournament results gathering. If you catch 71 fish or more, you'll win a normal festival prize an additional +1000 FP with the villagers.
Fall 17 - Michelle's Birthday
Favorite Gift (+3000 FP): Chiffon Cake. Recipe caught when fishing (Group 4). Flour + fruit + egg + milk
Easy Good Gifts (+2000 FP): gems, Gold Egg, Gold Silkie Egg, Honey, Royal Jelly
Fall 20 - Hana's Birthday
Favorite Gift (+3000 FP): Soy Milk Ice Cream. Recipe bought from Hana's shop for 300 G (Recipe #41). Ice + milk + Soybean
Easy Good Gifts (+2000 FP): fish, clams, shrimp, prawns
Fall 21 - Chicken Festival
This festival becomes available after you own a chicken. Neil sells Chickens starting from the beginning of the game for 5000 G each. If you want a Silkie Chicken, they unlock in Winter of year 2 or once you own 10 normal Chickens. The other way is to use the Nintendo Network and hope that another player trades a Silkie Egg to you. Then you can hatch the Silkie Chicken without needing to meet the standard requirements.
On the day of the festival, talk to Dunhill at the festival grounds to select the chicken you want to use and the class you want to enter. You can't enter a baby chicken or a sick chicken. You will have a better chance of winning if:
- You enter a chicken with a lot of Friendship Points (hearts)
- The chicken has zero stress
- You enter a Silkie Chicken instead of a normal white Chicken
- The chicken is super-sized (it can produce 5 eggs per day)
For the Beginner and Intermediate class, you can win simply based on the number of Friendship Points the chicken has. You'll win the Beginner class at 361 Friendship Points (3.5 hearts = 350 FP) and the Intermediate class at 9 hearts. But for the Advance class, you'll need 10 hearts and some of the factors listed above. The other judgement factors affect the lower classes as well; for example, if you enter a white Chicken into the Beginner class that only has 3 hearts but 0 stress, then you still have a chance of winning the festival.
If your chicken is judged to be the winner, you will receive a standard festival prize and +1000 FP with the villagers. You'll still get +1000 FP just for participating in the festival.
The winning chicken will then begin to lay golden eggs. The normal white Chicken will lay Gold Eggs and the Silkie will lay Gold Silkie Eggs. Hatching a golden egg will not result in a chicken that also lays golden eggs; yes, I've tried. It just lays a regular egg.
Fall 25 - Foliage Festival
This festival is available after you have unlocked 10 or more villagers and you have shipped 30 or more Yams and 30 or more Potatoes.
Talk to Dunhill at the entrance to the festival area between 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm (yes, that's only a 2 hour window) to participate. The villagers will gather together and you'll head to the Forest area to collect dried leaves for the bonfire. The person who helps you collect the leaves will be the one with who you have the highest friendship with out of:
- Boy Main Character: Allen, Neil, Rod, Sanjay, or Soseki (Amir is absent in Fall)
- Girl Main Character: Felicity, Iroha, Michelle, Tina, or Yuri (WP does not participate)
After you finish eating your roasted Yam, you'll return to your farmhouse at 4:00 pm. You will gain +1000 FP with the villagers who attended the festival.
Fall 28 - Olivia's Birthday
Favorite Gift (+3000 FP): Mango Cake. Recipe found when mining (Group 2). Flour + Mango
Easy Good Gifts (+2000 FP): Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary, Coral, Coconut, coins, Elli Leaves
Fall 30 - Fall Crop Festival
Bring your item to be judged to Dunhill at the festival area between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Hand it to him and he will automatically place you into the correct competition category, depending on the type of item you've given him. Then select the class you wish you be judged in (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). Entering the crop festival will earn +1000 Friendship Points with the villagers.
For this contest, the acceptable competition entries are:
- Vegetables: Carrot, Eggplant, Green Pepper, Spinach, Yam
- Fruits: Apple, Cocoa, Grape, Kiwi
- Flowers: All herbs, Cactus, Cotton, Flax, Gerbera, Nandeshiko, White Rose
- Other: All mushrooms (except for Poison Mushroom), Lotus Root, Rice Stalk, Soybeans, Tea Leaves, Wasabi, Wheat
The Fall Crop Festival is the only one you can enter a Rice Stalk into the Other contest. Rice has to be planted in Spring and can be harvested in Fall. You don't receive anything special for using your harvested rice in the Fall festival.
The Star Rank of the item is then judged against the three random villagers.
- Beginner Class: 0 to 30 SP is 4th place, 31 to 45 SP is 3rd place, 46 to 60 is 2nd place, and anything above 61 (1.5 Stars) is 1st place
- Intermediate Class: 0 to 90 SP is 4th place, 91 to 120 SP is 3rd place, 121 to 150 SP is 2nd place, and anything above 151 (3 Stars) is 1st place
- Advanced Class: 0 to 180 SP is 4th place, 181 to 210 SP is 3rd place, 211 to 240 SP is 2nd place, and anything above 241 (4.5 Stars) is 1st place
For the Vegetable contest, you can enter an enlarged crop for more Star Points. Entering a "Big" crop will add +25 SP to you point total and a "Giant" crop will add +50 SP.
If you win the festival you will be rewarded with a prize and an additional +1000 FP with the villagers.
Fall 31 - Pumpkin Festival
The candy festival in A New Beginning is a little different than in previous versions of Harvest Moon. Instead of just children (and Popuri) participating, everybody in the village is involved in the Pumpkin Festival.
Your task on this day is to give cooked desserts to the townsfolk, both children and adults. Everyone will accept gifts so give as many people a treat as you can. Any dessert recipe will be accepted, and even villagers who don't normally like desserts will take them (although some grumble about it, like Neil and Dunhill).
If you have given a treat to Toni, Niko, Hina, or your child, return to your house between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm and you'll be lead to the festival plaza. The villagers have gathered to build a dessert house to celebrate the festival. The size of the house will depend on the number of villagers you have given desserts to:
- 1 to 10 villagers: a small house
- 11 to 20 villagers: a medium house
- 21 or more villagers: a large house
You will earn +1000 FP for each villager you've given a dessert to, and another +1000 with the villagers who gathered to build the house of treats. The festival ends at 6:00 pm.
