Growing Fruit Trees

Trees are an easy crop to care for. You can grow two trees per crop field, they don't need to be watered, and they will remain on your farm until you cut them down. You can fertilize the tree to increase the fruit's star rank.

To plant a tree, till a 2x2 square of soil in a crop field, then place the tree in it. The type of soil you plant the tree in will affect its growth rate (because trees take a long time to grow), but it won't affect the number of days it produces fruit during its fruiting season.

You can fertilize a tree each day; it doesn't matter if it is producing fruit or not. At some point the tree will reach its maximum star rank and the game won't allow you to add more fertilize to it. The fertilizer seems to wear off due to stormy weather, so every so often check to see if the tree will accept fertilizer.

The higher the tree's star rank, the more fruit it will drop during its production season. For example, a tree that has 1 star will only drop one fruit, but a tree with 5 stars will drop five fruit, although you'll only see two fruit on the ground; a stack of two fruit and a stack of three fruit (for a total of five).

Each tree, except for Tea Leaf, will produce fruit during a single season. The tree needs to be full grown before it will flower during its production season. Even if the tree reaches maturity half-way through its typical production season, it will still start flowering and producing fruit. It doesn't have to be full grown at the beginning of the season.

Tea Leaf trees are a little different than fruit trees. The Tea plants only takes 1 square of soil and will produce one Tea Leaf per plant every few days during Spring, Summer, and Fall. You don't have to water Tea Leaf Trees and you can fertilize them just like a regular fruit tree.
